I mean, it's none of my business how Mumsnet choose to run their forum Grin but in the relatively short time I've been lurking, and then posting, so many people say they are posting in AIBU because the other sections are much quieter.

So you get threads that aren't really about someone BU at all, but end up in AIBU for the traffic.

Active Threads show loads of sections are being used, not just AIBU. Many posters are capable of posting outside of AIBU.

Potentially MN Mods could have a blitz and spend 4 weeks moving threads to the right boards. But it would cost them a lot of effort

It's really not an effort to move a thread. It's been a while since I did that shit on a forum but it wasn't hard or an effort then at all.

Loads of variety on my active list

@Asterion

And I clicked on All Talk Topics once - it looked like a nightmare, too much to choose from and half of them hidden! Confused
But if they were hidden, you must have done that, surely?!

Yanbu.

But I do find that Relationships / Education / Infertility / conception / Weightloss threads are all OK for traffic. But you'd still get more responses on all those topics if you posted on aibu.

There's no point in posting on e.g. Property / DIY as you'll only get a couple of replies.

I clicked on a couple of Mores and went cross-eyed from all the boards. Maybe fewer boards in each section would help?

It's a stupid section to have as 99% of the threads in there are not AIBU. Ppl actually say just posting for traffic

SuzieCarmichael · 01/10/2020 12:37

It has created a very unpleasant argumentative culture on MN and attracted many nasty posters, and the problem is that it spills over into other boards. Relationships has become such a bear pit and it’s meant to be a supportive place, for example. I don’t think it is ‘in the spirit of MN’ tbh.

I assumed that AIBU had always been here. When was it started?

A little bit of searching points to AIBU started on 31 January 2007. Indeed, this appears to be the (self-consciously) first thread:

Something else that happens is if a post is on another board but in active, it is quite often assumed by posters that it is in AIBU and you get catty responses. Happened to me once on a yoga topic, that I posted on the yoga board...
