How do I tell family and friends, without sounding rude, that we do not need anymore baby paraphernalia as we have everything we need?! I know that MIL will want to get something for the new baby but I have clothes and gro bags coming out of my ears!!

Why not suggest that they start a bank account for your second child, and just gently explain that you don't need any additional baby wear, toys etc. Or maybe just a tiny (6") soft teddy of some sort that baby will play with when they can first start to grasp things, that way it won't take up much room and will be specific to your new baby. Just my thoughts, I'm sure there will be other suggestions coming up.

Oh those are some very good ideas! I’m sure MIL will be happy to do something like that!! Thank you 😊

Hopefully they'll ask, that's what I do. I give gift vouchers for a new baby that isn't a first.

I find people don't tend to buy so much for the second baby. Gift vouchers are good though because you can use them when you need them.
Bank account is a good idea but would your eldest be upset when they get older about their sibling having extra money.

We got a lot of amazon vouchers for baby number 2, she was a lockdown baby so it was a case of not a lot else was open anyway 😂

I found I didn't get nearly as many gifts for dc2 as I did for dc1. Best present I got was fun my home from the hospital to find PIL were waiting for us with dc1. They had tidied the living room and brought fruit, chocolates and a Chinese takeaway. I hadn't eaten anything in nearly 24 hours and it was amazing.

You'll get loads less second time round. It's normal, and good, I find sorting endless children's clothes by season and age to be a full time job.

Thank you for all your messages! I think the bank account would be ok as we set one up for ds when he was born (adding a little monthly fund) we were planning to do the same for dc2
I just feel guilty that if clothes are bought (which MIL is intending according to DH) they may only be worn once or not at all; have been given girls clothes by the bag full from a friend just in case it’s a girl so we have so much of everything! I hate the idea that MIL will unknowingly waste money, she’s going through a messy divorce and really doesn’t have much at all, and even if I tell her not to worry she will of course want to buy something because it makes her happy.

I hope because of the new covid rules people may just think vouchers!

Elliejjtiny that sounds amazing!!
