Threat of Social services and solicitor from school

School has threatened us with SS and school solicitor
Back ground: Just had to take a few days off work unpaid due to covid at DD Nursery ( he is fine) , older DD sent home from school yesterday due to temp 37.5 ( taken on the wrist remotely )and cough. We took temp with good quality thermometer under Tonge and it was 36 we have taken temp repeatedly and it has stayed 36 for two days and night. There is a chest cough and snotty nose but cough is a couple of times today

School rang and said she can't come back till negative covid test , we told school we can't get a test as she does not have symptoms ie no temp and it's not a continuous dry cough

Lastly and not insignificantly I can't do another 10 days at home as this would amount to loss of a month wages, we have had a whole year of scary finances pre covid and I'm interviewing for my job this month ,

Yes we must all follow guidelines and isolate I'm a rule follower and socially responsible, can't get test, DD is now well but tad snotty still no temp , have done two weeks isolation with robustly healthy son if I take her to school without negative test they will "embarrass us at work by calling social services" ( we work in jobs that can't be done from home and are safeguarding sensitive) and they threatened to release their solicitor on us

Other than suck it up and isolate Any helpful advice please

Tolls / bullshiters lie and have inconsistent stories
So your accusation is offensive and confusing as think I've been straightforward ?

Narrative has not changed one tiny bit
I have merely clarified when a-point that did not seem relevant to me became the main issue for another poster, or others misunderstood or they haven't read the thread , or even my whole post

Don't know why some keep doubting I've tested and that a slot became available? I've posted receipt. I started posting really at my upset over the schools excessively reaction

I clearly have too much time on my hands today

Thanks again all helpful and supportive posts
Fingers crossed for speedy turn around on test ...hopefully I won't need to post pic of that to prove my honesty Hmm

Didnt they just announce a new 500 pound payout for people having to isolate?

Would you be able to apply to that to help

Thanks will do, if it's anything like universal credit that I dealt with last year .., I can't wait Sad

You can apply for a govt grant if you have to self isolate. I think it’s £500. It’s such a pain op I feel for you.

Bluebirdsky · 01/10/2020 12:41

You can get her a test; it doesn't say it has to be a dry cough just a cough. If she had a cough and had had a fever recorded by the school then get her a test

@Nymeriastark1 it wouldn't go down as a malicious call if the child was dumped at school when they'd shown symptoms of COVID and parents refused to keep them at home. It would be marked down as irresponsible parenting and conversations to make sure that they understood the nature of their rash decision would need to take place.

Wakemeupwhenthisisover · 01/10/2020 16:38

Also I’d put in a complaint About the person who threatened to embarrass you. I’d be livid.

Please read thread especially if you're going to be calling someone a bad mother that deserves SS involved
NO COVID symptoms that was whole point a temp of 36 or even 37.4 are not covid symptoms her cough was not continuous or frequent I've coughed more on the day she was sent home than she did and I tested her sense of smell and taste all great she's been bouncing off walls
But I followed advice and got test as soon as possible
And we're isolating
Yes I wanted to send my healthy child back to school and rang to left message she was absent but coming back, we were then hit with SS embarrassing us at work and solicitor threat
Tested yesterday
Isolating till we receive negative results

I read the thread thank you but if you had taken your child to school before being tested then SS would have to be involved. You obviously realise this too.

nitsandwormsdodger · 01/10/2020 17:00

If every child, teacher, nurse and baby in nursery has to get a test and Isolate when they have a sniffle and don't meet criteria for covid then the this will have consequences for world/personal finances

there has to be a sensible threshold
I've done what was asked of me and support the testing isolating routine WHEN there are symptoms

@MoonJelly

If I were you I'd turn this round on them. Point out that your child has never at any point met the criteria which would permit you to get a Covid test, therefore requiring her to be kept at home is an illegal exclusion and a breach of your child's statutory entitlement to full time education. It's also a breach of her human right to education. Say that you therefore require their immediate confirmation that she can return to school otherwise you will have to take legal proceedings by way of judicial review to secure a court order for her return. Also say that you will be filing in those proceedings full details of the wholly unwarranted threat of social services action that they have made.

For what it's worth, if you actually had to take action it would probably be covered by legal aid in your child's name so they shouldn't take this as an idle threat.

I don't want to kick up fuss at school they have enough to deal with
I will be having my say about ;

scarcity of tests
Tests needed for those that have proper symptoms ( or vulnerable)
Need for sensible threshold in consideration of working parents and how long/ how frequently this could be happening if they insist on low threshold
Need for clarity on what constitutes a temp

And lastly unnecessary use of school time and funds to involve solicitor and
Lastly and most personally for us threat of embarrassing us by SS contacting our work places

I have always had a fantastic relationship with the school i do not make any fuss about petty issues like some parents do I respect their time, stress and limited funds
They will know how I feel and hopefully I can peacefully get them to see where I'm coming from

I totally agree, OP, and the school was taking the absolute piss to threaten you with SS and a solicitor. My god, what planet are these people on?!

Christ, this whole situation is a complete shitshow.
