Clappingforjoy · 30/09/2020 14:50

Posting for traffic but ds is almost 20 and a student with no earnings should he have to pay for prescriptions and dental costs or is he entitled to help.
Also all benefits finish in December does he then get universal credit thanks in advance.

He has to pay based on this:

UC: www.gov.uk/universal-credit/eligibility

Is he in Wales? I believe students get free prescriptions.

Clappingforjoy · 30/09/2020 15:22

No England

Where is he a student? University or college?
What benefits does he get atm?

Can her get a part time job?

Mamamia456 · 30/09/2020 15:32

If he lives at home with you it will depend on your income as to whether he qualifies for free prescriptions. I don't think he qualifiés for UC if he is a student. Is he at college or uni?

Potterpotterpotter · 30/09/2020 15:46

Why isn’t he working part time?

ramblingmum · 30/09/2020 15:47

He may qualify under low income see
www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/help-with-health-costs/nhs-low-income-scheme-lis/

Clappingforjoy · 30/09/2020 16:18

He was working part time but lost his job during covid

He is at college and at the moment we get child benefit

If he's at college, it will depend on how much you earn then as any help depends on household income.

LakieLady · 30/09/2020 17:15

He will only be able to get Universal Credit while studying if he gets PIP and is found to have limited capability for work.

He may be able to claim exemption on grounds of low income now. There's an eligibility checker here services.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check-for-help-paying-nhs-costs/start .

Clappingforjoy · 30/09/2020 17:16

Thought maybe because he is a adult it would be based on him as a individual not what his parents have coming in

He may come under the HC1 Form help, for those with a low income, he can order the form on line, or get one from job centres.

movingonup20 · 30/09/2020 17:35

If he lives at home and is at college he will not qualify as he can apply for student loans and his rent is considered zero. My dd was in this position. He cannot get uc whilst a student unless in very specific circumstances (pip is available though). Once he leaves home it's different but students are meant to apply to student finance for support
