Not mayo and ketchup, either one or the other or even better neither and a really good burger sauce instead. Best burgers I have had it's been the sauce that took them to the next level (everything else needing to be good too of course).

Mayo and ketchup mixed together are the two main ingredients of marie rose sauce (that pinkish orange stuff you put on prawn cocktails and that's not a flavour combo I want in a burger).

Each to their own but I hate mayo and burger sauce, and I never ever have salad in a burger, except onions. For me it's:
Bottom bun, burger, cheese, raw red and white onion, ketchup, top bun.
Both buns buttered as can't stand dry buns, cheese not completely melted, and both red and white onion must be raw, I hate cooked onions.

I put everything on top of the burger, but i don't take ketchup so not an issue.

I then put the top bun face up with salad on, and this only goes on the top right at the moment I eat it.

Tell what's a cracker in a burger - bacon frazzles (the crisps) or even pickled monster munch.

Salad needs to be right on top (under the top bun). Adjust other items to suit.

Unless you are a child who hasn't yet mastered cutlery, serve the burger with cheese on top, if that's what you want, on a warmed plate. Everything else should be side dishes so people can add what they want to their meal.
