To think I could be ovulating?

I had the contraceptive implant fitted in July 2017 which stopped my periods completely. It needs replacing but due to coronavirus I can't make an appointment to get this done. I was reassured by the nurse who told me that the implant is actually effective for 4 years and so it will still offer protection. Which I was happy enough with. But now my periods have returned every 4 weeks with all the PMS symptoms I used to get. AIBU to think that could mean the implant is no longer effective? And I need to make DH use other forms of protection?

Yes! Condoms until your implant can be replaced.

DH keeps saying "But the nurse said they last for 4 years. She knows more about medical stuff than us." Which is true but I think the real reason is he has never liked condoms. Hmm

Well your body sounds like it’s back in action and as the nurse won’t be looking after your potential baby, I’m voting condoms!

True. I am just hoping menstrual cycle doesn't mean I'm ovulating but as I don't know for sure best to take precautions

Yes, I’m the same with Depo. The nurse said it would be a year (it’s been 4 months), but signs of ovulating yesterday and today. Thank Christ I’ve been using condoms.
It’s fucking ridiculous how contraception has stopped.

PatioDoor · 30/09/2020 14:37

It is ridiculous @Mellonsprite. It seems just as essential and less risky than the Dental Checkup I had last week

Well if he doesn't like condoms, abstinence it is. He doesn't get to play Russian Roulette when it's you the gun is pointing at.

You can't get contraception fitted in the UK at the moment? Shock

Won't they even give you a prescription for the pill?

PatioDoor · 01/10/2020 15:36

@BertieBotts I have had several bad experiences with the pill. The only contraception that has ever worked without me turning into a blubbery crying mess is either the implant or the coil. Neither of which I can get fitted at the moment.

Ask your DH if he wants a baby arriving in 2021 !

PatioDoor · 01/10/2020 20:57

He just keeps telling me to "follow the science" and sending me studies that prove they don't run out after 3 years. It's not even about sex with or without a condom anymore. He just needs to be right.
