StormsDontLastForever · 29/09/2020 20:36

I am a stressed, I stress about things before there is even anything to be stressing about. I suffer from anxiety and depression, take daily medication, been unwell recently and I think a part of it is due to stress. What do people do to de stress? I've tried reading but feel it doesn't help and next morning when I wake I am stressing again. Thanks Smile

Walk the dogs.
Muck out the horses.
Pull up weeds.
Basically anything active outside, regardless of the weather.

minnie465 · 29/09/2020 21:33

Sex
Exercise
Bath
Read a book

RiftGibbon · 29/09/2020 21:34

Read, yoga, gardening - and over the years I've learned to care less and less what other people think of me. As long as I'm doing what I need to do, then all is well.

RepeatSwan · 29/09/2020 21:34

Exercise
Baking
Crochet
Mending
Telly
Sleeping

Get some space. If feel really down, ill drive 1.5hrs to the coast and spend a few hours there. My happy place.

I also will run or take a bike ride. Fresh air does me wonders.

Sometimes sleeping on a worry tends to clear my head a bit, if I do manage to sleep when stressed/anxious. I find a less tired me helps me rationalise my thoughts.

Dunnowhat2do · 29/09/2020 21:54

Also I force myself to do something for me. If there has been somewhere I've delayed going for my own want, I'll go. For example, I suffer with chronic back pain and I need a proper massage every so often. Right now, I cant justify the spend. If I feel down, i'll change thay thinking to F it, i deserve this and will go do it!

Walking and reading, even just a chapter before bed. Helps calm my mind immensely.

ladybee28 · 29/09/2020 22:14

Therapy.

Nice baths and long walks were nice, and yoga helped a bit, but they were only a band-aid when I was at my most stressed. I needed to get to the nub of things.

ssd · 29/09/2020 22:18

Thank you for this thread. I so need it right now.

DeathMetalMum · 29/09/2020 22:37

Reading particularly before bed. It always takes my mind of anything.

Also getting outside gardening, brisk walk, trip to the beach or walk up a hill I have a few favourite places but exploring somewhere new is also very de-stressing.

Quaagars · 29/09/2020 22:50

Colouring
Watch comfort telly such as Friends

Graphista · 29/09/2020 23:16

I suffer really badly from an anxiety disorder too op, so I may not be the best person to advise but

Puzzles - on phone - crosswords, sudoku, word search and similar

Games - on phone - currently really enjoying FarmVille 2 - country escape and also tropic escape (set on tropical island pure escapism)

Mn - yes I genuinely find it relaxing/distracting

Listen to music

Was talking with therapist the other day and she suggested something with my hands so I have to concentrate more so I may take up some crafts again

Any hints on where to start with embroidery for a beginner? Thanks! printed cross stitch is super easy, or you could get counted ones designed for children to start you off - larger fabric to stitch on, simpler patterns. Seems counterintuitive but avoid patterns with one or very few colours or too similar colours as they're hard to follow initially and strain eyes

Needhelp101 · 30/09/2020 01:14

I've got back into cooking lately. And watching cookery shows on TV (I find Nigella very soothing).

Yoga.

There's a great Facebook group called something like 'positive Corona stories and fun only, thanks' which gives me a hearty chuckle a few times a day.

Bach when I'm winding down at night.

Video games. Nothing more relaxing than slaughtering my way through the hoards of hell in order to save the world.

seayork2020 · 30/09/2020 01:24

Watch shows, play games on my phone, read, do puzzles in magazines

I have been thinking about this, I used to play on the PlayStation when younger, and it is very distracting and relaxing. We have no consoles now, maybe I should get one again.

Boundaries between work and home (even with wfh).
Regular sleep times.
A daily walk.

I really need this too, thanks all 🙂

madcatladyforever · 30/09/2020 07:23

Walks in the countryside
I've always got some project on the go:
Knitting
Sewing
Making dollshouse miniatures and houses
If I can't get to sleep I put these videos on:

A really good book, I have a kindle so there are lots of free ones.
Writing letters to relatives abroad rather than facebooking
Decorating my house
Meditation and ritual (the pagan kind)
Lavendar pillow.

But above all knowing it's pointless to get stressed over things you cannot change and if can change them then do so. I recently moved 300 miles to a cheaper area so I could do just that, I have friends in my new area so I'm not alone.
Join a group whether it's mindfulness, yoga or whatever, being with people can help.

Beekeeper1 · 30/09/2020 07:24

Sit outside, with a good, strong cup of tea, watching the moon rise, listen to the owls hooting and watch bats flitting about

theamplifier · 30/09/2020 07:25

I play games on my phone (FarmVille type games, Design Home, Scrabble and word games) while listening to silly mindless podcasts. It is my way to unwind.

I do agree that exercise helps. I just walk, as I don't like jumping around or lifting weights.

SheeshazAZ09 · 30/09/2020 07:25

Running, walking in nature, transcendental meditation. Keeping a good routine, early to bed, no sugar.

PopsicleHustler · 30/09/2020 07:27

Bubble bath and a word game on my phone.
Perfect

@RepeatSwan

Cant recommend Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch enough.

Such a lovely escape from real world shit.

Has helped me tremendously this year.
