New career

Posting in AIBU for traffic.

Lockdown has given me alot of time to think about my life and career and whether the path I have taken is the right one.

I have always wanted to teach, be it primary or secondary. (primary would be first choice).

I am 34 and have a decent well paid office managers job that I have worked up from the bottom of the ladder.

I was wandering what the best pathway would be to take for me to achieve this goal. Ideally I would like to be doing it by the time I am 40 as I know I will have to study and qualify part time while I work.

I actually went to university when I was 18 but dropped out. I was thinking maybe an OU course but wasn't sure if I could get student finance as I have had it once befor and dropped out.

Any advice would be great.

Teachers are in high demand. Before you start studying for a degree, though, make sure you know what working in a school is really like! I am not sure you will be allowed to volunteer or observe anywhere at the moment, maybe have a read of the staffroom section and the other school related threads for now. Also look at the statistics: teaching has a major retention problem for a reason.
