Hi, I'll be watching this drama tonight but the sense I get from the ads is that they're portraying the police as really trying to help poor Banaz (RIP), but the news reports at the time told a different story.

I hope we won't get a re-visioning of what happened.

"On New Year's Eve, the police were called to a café in Wimbledon where Banaz had arrived in a distressed state claiming that her father had tried to kill her. She was under the influence of alcohol - which her father had made her drink[2] - and had injuries to her hands, having smashed a window during her escape. Described as distraught and terrified by café and hospital staff, the policewoman who interviewed her did not believe her. She referred to her as "manipulative" and "melodramatic", and wanted to charge her with criminal damage for breaking the window.[13][4] Whilst in hospital Banaz gave an account of events to her boyfriend, which he recorded on his phone and later handed to the police.[13]"

AIBU or is there more to the story?

@hashtagsquirrellegs it should be there, both eps are available as catch-up.

@Stay123 no one said the police killed her.Are you really saying the police did nothing wrong even though Banaz went to the police FIVE teams with fears for her life? Banaz was failed by many people, but the way people treated her is shocking.

That attitude has really disgusted me, shame on you. As I sa

Wasn't there a more recent case of a young woman murdered by a stalker? She had gone to the police several times and they had fined her for wasting police time?
I am sure I read something on MN about it.

@hashtagsquirrellegs It's showing as being on the ITV hub, I have a BT box

This happened nearly 16 years ago when (a) the police weren't as aware of honour killings and (b) the concern over racism and (c) the attitude towards rape/dv/abuse in a marriage has changed

It's a harrowing story and one of her sisters is living under witness protection and another found the courage to talk about it on TV. Small steps in the right direction.

But I don't understand her mother's apparent distancing from what was done to her daughter 😥
