Would you return an item that arrived twice?

Ordered one item from a website. Item only cost £10 + delivery so not expensive.

2 arrived today. My first thought was that I'd accidentally ordered 2. I checked and I didn't. Also checked my bank. Only paid for 1..

Only cost £10 as above so nothing expensive would you contact shop to return!

It's a very large well known company who I'm sure wouldn't notice one item being sent for free 🤣

Don't really want the faff of sending it back nor do I want to pay to return something I didn't order.

Would you contact them? Or just keep it. It something which 2 of would be handy tbf.

I'm sure the shop probably wouldn't want to pay to return something that only costs £10.

Aibu to just keep it. They sent them in separate boxes with 2 invoices so clearly my order was processed twice by mistake!

Email the company. If they want it back they will arrange collection, chances are they’ll tell you to keep it.

This happened to us with some bar stools. The first ones didn't arrive for weeks so Amazon sent a replacement saying they were lost. Then 2 sets turned up at once. We contacted the Amazon seller who asked us to return them to a UPS store. We don't have a car so wouldn't have been able to. They haven't been in contact again and we still have the stools so I guess they aren't that bothered.

WhollyWhole · 28/09/2020 16:14

This happened to me with my dining chairs, a light fitting and a pair of shoes.

I didn't bother telling the companies, just kept them all.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 28/09/2020 16:17

Contact them. Amazon They will tell we tell you to keep it. Clean conscience

flossletsfloss · 28/09/2020 16:19

Oh for gods sake....honestly. Just keep it.

TheQueef · 28/09/2020 16:24

Amazon always tell me to keep it or donate it.
Several times, with the 1 exception of a split cat litter Confused

I once got given someone else's stuff as well as mine in John Lewis customer collections I emailed them and they emailed back and told me to keep it and sent me a £25 voucher as a thank you - so honesty was definitely the best policy there!!

Abraid2 · 28/09/2020 16:27

Tell them and let them decide whether they want to get it.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 28/09/2020 16:31

H had this recently. The company originally wanted him to post in back at his own expense. It was a heavy item that needing returning to an EU address, so obviously that wasn't going to happen. Eventually he got them to send a pre-paid post label, after rather too many emails to and fro, with him pointing out that just going to the post office was goodwill enough bearing in mine the fault was on their part. If it happens again we'll save the hassle and not bother.

Don't want to go into too much detail (in case the wine gods are listening) but I did an online supermarket order a few weeks ago, absolutely everything arrived, including 12 (!) of the same item I definitely didn't order as I'm 8 months pregnant.
It was bagless so I saw them straightaway.

I told the delivery driver then and there that we had not ordered them (Dh was helping to unpack so he confirmed he hadn't either).

Twice he told me to keep them.
He checked all his orders over and again, I checked my delivery list, my online account and the bank payment too, definitely weren't on any orders anywhere.
He was adamant I should keep them and literally wouldn't take them back. He just said "there must have been a mix up".

They're still sitting in the garage waiting for the driver to come back/ the supermarket to charge me / ~long enough for me to have a baby and get them open~ because they're posh ones and there is no way I could afford them if they do need to be returned.

SquashedSpring · 28/09/2020 16:43

Yes I would return it. A similar thing happened the other week and I refused delivery of the duplicate item (it was big and they were in separate packaging) and emailed the company to let them know what had happened.

I once received two books when I'd only ordered and paid for one. I emailed the company who told me to give the other book to charity, so I did.

MojoJojo71 · 28/09/2020 16:49

I would contact them. I recently received 2 copies of the same book from amazon and when I called them I realised it was my mistake and I’d accidentally ordered twice but they still refunded me for one and told me to keep it because it wasn’t worth the hassle sending it back

It's not Amazon 😃

I'd always contact the retailer, but I'd ask them to send me a postage label, arrange a labeless drop off, or send a courier to collect. I wouldn't be paying postage and claiming it back etc.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/09/2020 17:37

I would contact the company.

As long as they can collect it at a convenient time they‘re welcome to have it back

BigBreastedMumma · 28/09/2020 17:39

This has happened to us many times. We've kept it. Its their fault, not yours!

MrsClatterbuck · 28/09/2020 17:40

I ordered crockery from M&S and unfortunately two of the items were not included in my order but in their place were two white dinner plates (the missing items were two cereal bowls as I was building up an everyday set). I phoned their customer services who apologised and said they would immediately put in a order for the missing bowls. When I mentioned returning the plates I got told to keep them. They were worth 10 pounds and more than the missing bowls. I now use these plates on a regular basis instead of the plates belonging to the set I had built up.

Was it Ikea by any chance? This has happened to me twice recently with Ikea.
