Live in Devon or South Wales

Where would you Live between these two locations? I have 3 primary aged children and currently live in a city but have wanted to leave for so long and time seems right for us now.

Sorry I can't be more specific with particular areas but we'd choose exact location depending on work which I think is pretty transferable.

I see that South Wales we would get more house for our money but my heart is set on Devon.

Has anybody else moved from a city to these areas? Are you glad or do you regret it?

I do love S Wales though. And Devon.

Im biased, born and raised in Pembrokeshire, moved to monmouthshire for 10yrs,also lovely but back in Pembs and feel so lucky.
Good luck in your decision.

For those suggesting Bristol - geographically it might make sense, but cost wise for housing, Bristol is vastly more expensive than Bristol.

Beware of moving soon to be teens anywhere too rural - espeically if they have been used to the convenience of a City. Remember you'll have to be driving them everywhere until they pass their tests and can afford the insurance.

@HelplessProcrastinator

thevassal All the nicer beaches on that link are on The Gower aren’t they? If there are decent swimming beaches further East I stand corrected but never known anyone to do a beach holiday on that coast.
No a fair few are near Porthcawl. Really good for surfing, and fine for swimming. Not as nice as the Gower but still good!

Welsh short course/second language really isn't any sort of hindrance. It was like learning to speak English to the level of a 7 year old. We had one 45 minute lesson a week when I was in secondary school in the 00s, it's really not enough of an issue to put someone off moving somewhere. I will agree that it is very wet here though unfortunately.

This may be outing but I’ve lived in both places and both are very varied and have some good options. Devon is a huge county, with the South generally being better connected, with more work opportunities, but busier than north.

West Wales is beautiful and quiet but again, is less well connected to cities, jobs etc than the Gower and coast towards Cardiff.

I suggest renting initially to check if the area suits you. Places that attract visitors can feel so different in summer vs winter.

I lived in S Wales for a number of years & loved it.
All the advantages of a (small) city, fantastic coast nearby hills & mountains nearby. Go for it.

Another Devonian here. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else and I went to university in a big city and have lived elsewhere in the past. I had in-laws who lived in South Wales so used to visit there a lot and found it really depressing. You would get twice the house for your money there though. Agree that Pembrokeshire is lovely.

Some great replies. If I was to settle for South Wales it would probably be the Pembrokeshire area but do agree it is far away from everywhere else. Wondering how I'd feel about that after living in a city. To be honest I'm not a city person but do like to be close to a supermarket for example.

Devon on the other hand, I prefer North Devon but realise my children will probably have better opportunities as they get older in South Devon maybe.

You clearly haven’t seen all of South Wales!
