Do you have a fever OP? Have you actually been seen by a doctor?

JamieLeeCurtains · 28/09/2020 13:46

Well indeed, how was that diagnosed - in person?

Giveitarestlove · 28/09/2020 13:58

Last week I rang my old doctors I said I had some swelling and I had terrible ear pain and loss of hearing. She prescribed me amoxicillin over the phone.

I've just moved house so the new Doctor this morning checked inside my ear couldn't see anything. He pressed down the parts which were hurting and it was my jaw bone.

My symptoms at the moment are ear pain and jaw pain. My teeth are sensitive from the throbbing from my ear but they don't hurt at all.

I had a tooth abscess with no pain in the tooth op, just a lot of swelling in my face. If it's a back one could definitely give you more ear pain than mouth pain. Hope you're OK!

Me too. The pain was in my ear and jaw. And I was misdiagnosed with TMJ.

doctorhamster · 28/09/2020 16:00

I think your next move should be to contact your dentist op.

YukoandHiro · 28/09/2020 16:53

I get TMJ. It can be absolute agony. See a dentist. You're probably jaw clenching and tooth grinding at night. You need a mouth guard to stop you being able to grip so hard that you damage your muscles and end up like this.
In the meantime, go to the pharmacy and buy a painkiller with a muscle relaxant in it such as Syndol. It will help.

BatShite · 28/09/2020 17:08

I hope you are feeling a bit better. Absolutely pain thats that bad is a reason to go to A+E.

I have a chronic pain condition that regularly makes me end in A+E for IV morphine. I have had 2 kids, And still when looking back over my life for the worst pain in memory, it was a particularly nasty ear infection which actually ( Blush ) made me cry in the middle of a crowded street.

JustGetThroughTheDay · 28/09/2020 19:05

I had terrible ear ache for ages. Went to the docs and was diagnosed with glue ear in both ears. Was on several types on antibiotics for months. Eventually got seen by the ent unit who said I had nothing wrong with my ears.
Was only ten years later when I changed dentist and they did X-rays and asked if I had had any tooth pain in my early twenties. Turns out my wisdom teeth have grown 'sideways' (no idea what that means!) and the glue ear wasn't the actual issue!

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 28/09/2020 19:18

you can google exercises for TMJ pain.

Boomerwang · 30/09/2020 04:06

Glad you got seen but I hope their diagnosis was correct. I also had to drive a long way to my ear specialist to convince her I wasn't overreacting - after years of constant infections I just know when something isn't right.

Got amoxy pills and drops and now it's clearing up.

I’ve had a perforated eardrum - my ear bled, it was agony. It’s NOT an emergency. Don’t waste their time at A & E. we can see who all the fuss pots are on here. The A & E blockers

olympicsrock · 30/09/2020 05:43

I am a doctor with A and E experience. To clarify - severe pain is definitely an emergency. I can’t believe some of the ridiculous comments.

Oh fuck off
TheSniffleSeason · 30/09/2020 07:49

@pinkstripeycat

As I previously said dsis was admitted from A & E with an ear infection. They obviously didn't just think she was a fuss pot Hmm

cosmo30 · 30/10/2020 15:44

@pinkstripeycat actually a perforated eardrum led to meningitis for someone I know, so it can be an emergency
