Inspired by another thread with the opposite title, what are the standout moments in your life? Mine are when I was told (soon after dissertation hand in) that my tutor was going to take the research further (we are now published) and having my little girl - I'd said my whole life I didn't want kids and changed my mind just in time. She's my world. What's happened in your life that will always make you happy when you think about it?

Meeting my husband.

PhylisPrice · 27/09/2020 21:56

Having my baby boy (like you I really didn't want kids but changed my mind) and rekindling with 'the one that got away' after 10 years apart. Christ that sounds so cringy 🤣🙈 I'm a hard faced bitch in real life! 😆

mbosnz · 27/09/2020 21:57

That would be meeting, and ultimately coming together with my DH.

gindinner · 27/09/2020 22:05

My children. O thing else comes close

SierraHotel · 27/09/2020 22:07

Having my girls, nothing tops that.

farfallarocks · 27/09/2020 22:10

Seeing my dd flickering heartbeat at an early scan after lots of miscarriages. I loved her from that moment.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 27/09/2020 22:11

Having my dc. Every other part of my life has been completely and utterly shit.

DreamingofItaly · 27/09/2020 22:11

My baby boy. Like you and PP I didn't want children but changed my mind after marriage. He's the most incredible little thing.
And breeding my dog, he too, although not with us any more has left me with the greatest memories.

Chimpfield · 27/09/2020 22:12

Meeting my wonderful husband after a 28 year unhappy first marriage

Sohardtochooseausername · 27/09/2020 22:14

Definitely DD. She gives me daily joy.

I’d also say a number of setbacks eg being made redundant and getting dumped were long term blessings in disguise.

Northernsoullover · 27/09/2020 22:19

Getting a well paid job on the back of the degree I'm studying for. I have been a cleaner for the last ten years. 3 years ago I could only have dreamed I could earn so well.

thisusernameismine · 27/09/2020 22:20

@Sohardtochooseausername ah yes - leaving my job of 12 years was a massive blessing in disguise! Stuff has opened up that wouldn't have before - I did get a settlement due to boss bad behaviour and although it was a shit thing to go through, I am so happy I finally had the push to leave.

Loving the stories so far Smile

@PhylisPrice how did you rekindle? Love that!

Sparklesocks · 27/09/2020 22:23

Meeting my partner.

Getting a generous redundancy package which meant I could travel the states for months - and got me out of a dead end job.

Passing my driving test, I failed aged 17 and 19 and learnt again in my mid 20s. Took ages to pass and several test attempts, was absolutely elated when I finally did it. Felt euphoric for days afterwards.

Vgbeat · 27/09/2020 22:23

Top my daughter being born we tried for years and she is the light of my life. Second would be that my radiation/chemo had worked for stage 2 cervical cancer still 4 years of check ups but touch wood.

U2HasTheEdge · 27/09/2020 22:26

Apart from my children and husband...

Getting a job after being a SAHM/carer for 14 years- studying to get where I want to be. I never thought it would be possible to do this and get such high marks. I am continuing to further my career.
Learning to drive.
Going to concerts with my mum- amazing memories.
Adopting my dogs.
Meeting the group of friends I have now.

thisusernameismine · 27/09/2020 22:31

Adding more of mine -

Took me months to decide to do an intense yoga teacher training course (in the US) and then I did it, in my early 30s, and it was life changing. I met my now husband at a yoga studio just a few months after qualifying.

Have to mention the DH as that's what got me my DD Grin

Being selected to work as a volunteer for a charity I care passionately about.

2yrs later and more ivf ,my daughter
They're now teens and they bring me so much happiness
I wish I'd had more

motherofdxughters · 27/09/2020 23:25

Having my DD's.

DipSwimSwoosh · 27/09/2020 23:31

My little boy.
He turned me into a mother and that's all I ever wanted to be. He is nearly 7 now and still the light of my life, along with his 2 sisters.
My life isn't perfect, but I look at him every day and want nothing more. He is so kind and funny and clever.
I adore all my children, but I am so grateful to him for turning me into me.

Saggyoldsofa · 27/09/2020 23:31

Having my children and being around them.

Discovering the wonders of antidepressants. Changed my life.

Getting into my current organisation 15 yrs ago. Also changed my life.

Giving up drinking alcohol. I thought I would feel deprived but I feel full of absolute joy and free of its tyranny.

Twigletfairy · 27/09/2020 23:35

Having my girls.

Leaving my reasonably well paid career for a national minimum wage OOH job that I absolutely love

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 27/09/2020 23:36

That’s easy ds nothing else comes close

Forming a relationship with my half brother and sister has been wonderful I never thought it would happen and we are all close and so are our children

deflationexasperation · 27/09/2020 23:36

Husband, I used to have constant aching in stomach... If it wasn't for dh I wouldn't have my beautiful girls....
