Police incident advice

I was on a mini break in early August and to cut a very long story short I was witness to quite a violent attack. A report was filed to the police and I gave descriptions of the attackers.

Not heard anything since night, so put the incident to the back of my mind. But tonight I had a phone call from their local police dept, asking to go back to help identify the suspects (a police line up sort of thing)

Anyway they want me to go to local police station, which is a good 3/4 hour drive from my house. My AIBU is to feel that the police/authority should cover travel expenses? I need to take a day off work and pay for petrol etc.

Wondered if anyone else had been in a similar situation? AIBU for wanting to ask the police who covers expenses? Or would this not even be an option?

Thanks all.

Just to clarify the incident did not involve me - I was merely a witness who spoke to police at the crime scene.

Me and my mum had to go to court to give evidence against someone who was dangerous driving. They paid for our missed days at work (well a percentage I think) they put us up in a hotel for a night and covered travel expenses I'm sure. My mum paid that because she drove. Not sure if it would be the same for your situation though.

They used to advertise in the JobCentre for people to appear in ID parades.

They paid £10 a time.

I am talking about late 1990s

I have a weird feeling there is a charity that helps with costs like OP's... something something victims? Ask the police, anyway.

YABU to say 3-4 hours is 3/4 hours. 3/4 hours is 45 minutes

@ButtWormHole the / was meant to represent "or". Thanks for the helpful comment though. 👍
