To do Halloween a little differently this year

No trick or treating. For all the obvious Covid 19 reasons.

But instead, and a lot of our neighbours are game for this. We'll be doing a pumpkin walk.

Like the rainbow walks earlier this year, neighbours will decorate their windows and frontages for Halloween, and include a pumpkin somewhere.

Our kids will dress up and walk around, pumpkin spotting. For every pumpkin spotted they get a sweet (from their parents).

YABU - terrible idea
YANBU - great idea

I saw this discussed on here yesterday. I'd be reluctant to put a pumpkin in my window in case some people assumed that they could knock and trick or treat, as I wouldn't be keen on that.

DameFanny · 26/09/2020 18:27

That's been suggested in our village and people are going for it - we'll have to drag out the crayons again. Fwiw I think it's a nice idea.

BullshitVivienne · 26/09/2020 18:27

But if it's discussed on a local Facebook group and agreed on, then I think it's a good idea.

AshenQueen · 26/09/2020 18:28

I think that’s a lovely idea. I’ve been swithering on what to do this year. I find Hallowe'en a bit of a carry on personally, but my two love it.

Great thinking OP.

WeeWelshWoman · 26/09/2020 18:28

@BullshitVivienne we've been chatting on our Nextdoor and local FB group so most neighbours know the plan. Smile

Have seen this on FB loads by people who think they've hit on a wonderfully original idea.

Personally I'll be very happy not to traipse the streets in the dark looking at pumpkins Confused

Leimarel · 26/09/2020 18:32

Our next door group has organised something similar - I think it will be nice for the kids, a night to look forward to. I've got a little ceramic pumpkin lantern I shall put in the window - I'm rubbish at carving real pumpkins, and I'm so clumsy I'd probably end up in A&E.

WeeWelshWoman · 26/09/2020 18:32

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel we have a toddler, and it's a Saturday so we're likely to go out around 4pm Blush

@Leimarel I have a pumpkin growing... For the first time ever. Not sure if it will survive this cold snap though. I too am useless at carving them. Handy with a chalk paint pen though :)

No we won't be doing that. I am going to send my dc out into the garden when it is dark and hide sweets over the house turn the lights off give them a torch each and let them crack on with it. That along with a halloween feast, ty pinterest and a not so scary film followed by a proper horror later for the older ones.

Cocomarine · 26/09/2020 21:26

I’ve seen it all over Facebook. I don’t see why it would be an “unreasonable”?

Dugsbollox · 26/09/2020 21:33

Yes, I've seen this and think it's a good idea, as long as everyone knows that's the plan. Not everyone will be on FB, so might knock on doors thinking decorations = sweets.

We're just going to be doing stuff at home this year.

Angel2702 · 26/09/2020 21:41

We are doing this and most parents I know are taking part. We will have signs up explaining the idea in advance and I will tape off the gate and have a poster on the day so people know we are taking part with decorating but not giving out treats this year.
