To think a 15 year old is capable of babysitting my DC?

My DC s 6. Once per month I work a weekend day so my 15 year old cousin babysits at his dads (my uncles).

There are plenty of toys for my DC to play with as my uncle has two younger children who’re a similar age (they go to their mums for that to not overwhelm 15yo – different mum to the 15yo). Uncle also has a garden with play equipment.

15yo is paid to look after DC. He basically supervises them playing. can sit inside when they’re in the garden as the living room looks out onto the garden, makes their lunch (usually a sandwich or sausage roll but he does sometimes cook) and then walk DC to their fathers round the corner when he finishes work (usually about 2.30pmish).

They babysit 10am-2pm/2.30pm. So about 4 hours.

15yo seems happy and I’d never force him if he says he can’t do it I arrange something else. But a friend commented that daytime babysitting is harder than nighttime and he’s a bit young for daytime sitting a child.

So AIBU to think 15yo can cope with an easy 6yo once per month?

YANBU - 15yos is fine for this
YABU - 15yo is too young

Of course it's fine. Sensible and in a safe environment.

Of course, there are people who don't allow their 15yer olds to be at home alone so..... maybe your friend is on that line.

I used to babysit at age 11 for a 2 Yr old. But was more like supervise. As my dad was always in the house. From age 13 I could take her to my Nans which was a 10 min walk. And had her unsupervised.. She did have a packed lunch though. We used t OK go to park and everything

I guess depends how responsible the teen is

I have a nr 15 Yr old.. I'd happily leave with 8yr old dsd. But wouldn't for longer than 10nmin with the others
He clashes with the 2 Yr old who has a lot to say for herself..
And he's too young to be responsible for an 8m old.
. I've left him once for 20 min to go to the shop when baby was asleep and knew he's sleep for over an hour. But made sure neighbours were on hand

I think it’s fine. Trust your own judgement.
