To be sorry for this man

Asian man at doctors today and the reason I mention that he is Asian is because there was also a bit of a language barrier.
He was trying to tell the receptionist that he had had a accident at work and had badly hurt his back.
Receptionist was very off with him telling him he shouldn't have just walked in without an appointment and to go home and call them he was then trying to explain that he had tried to call and they wasnt answering the phone but the receptionist was clearly not interested and then handed him their number and sent him away despite him pleading for help.
Am I right in thinking this is a bad way to treat somebody.

To be honest doctors receptionists are the most power hungry breed of public sector workers anyway. Never met a nice or helpful one. They think themselves to be part of the medical profession when they know nothing, don’t know how to speak to people and think that they are some sort of gatekeeper to the real medical professionals so that makes them invincible.

My sister was at the doctors and the person in front wanted to make an appointment. This was before Covid. He was told he needed to phone to make an appointment: and he was standing at the GP reception being told this. So do you know what he did? He stood in front of the reception and phoned from there 😊.

Exactly what I was about to suggest.

For those people saying "If this guy was seen, someone else wouldn't have been" – that doesn't have to be true.

He couldn't get through on the phone to make an appointment, so he came in... to make an appointment.

If he was right there in front of her, there was nothing stopping the receptionist apologising for their failure to answer phones and making him an appointment there and then.

Speaking as an immigrant abroad myself, systems in countries that aren't your own can be far more intimidating than you'd expect, and a little kindness from people on the other side of these desks goes a really long way.
