How am I ill?

I’m full it cold. It’s just a cold, but it’s horrendous. We’ve not been anywhere because we have had shopping delivered and as we are both teachers and back at school we thought it was best to avoid family and friends for a couple of weeks to see how it all plays out.

I don’t go near kids at school, both mine and the kids hands are washed constantly and the classroom is wiped down regularly. I’ve not been near other staff as my classroom is miles away and the day is so chaotic I just don’t get chance.

How can I still have a cold? I can barely breathe I’m so bunged up and I don’t think it’s deserved! 😭

AIBU to be think someone is breaking into my house on a night and sneezing on me? There is no other explanation!

@Newnamenewopenme

I’ve had the windows open all day to keep the room well ventilated and I’m always at least 2m away. Nobody uses my desk other than me and I clean it all day for no germs to get on it. I want to ring in sick tomorrow but there’s already so many off that it would be really hard work for whoever gets stuck with cover.
I don’t know what you teach, but I hope it’s needlework or art or something and not science!

I have not seen any convincing evidence yet that our immune systems are significantly different just becuase of a few months social distancing. If you had been exposed to more bugs over lockdown the only difference is you would have had them then, not now.

Yes, people who are convinced of this clearly don’t know how the immune system works. It doesn’t “forget” what a cold is after 6 months.

First day kids went back to school I came down with a horrific cold - started with sore throat, sneezing and then just a constant streaming nose. I’m honestly still not fully recovered 2 weeks later, it made me feel so run down. I’ve been healthy since start of lockdown! I think I caught it from kids - they were going to their clubs, although all measures in place there. Been so vigilant with hand cleaning, social distancing and been working from home. I really hope CV 19 isn’t quite so easily spread as these cold bugs going around!

It’s not from school then...there’s an incubation period. Schools are definitely spreading colds though. And Covid, though the government would prefer us not to say that.

Are you serious? 7 m this in and you don’t know the COVID symptoms?
It’s really not that clear cut @SeenYourArse Lots of symptoms in common.

Yes, it must’ve been through the kids clubs. I just happened to start being ill the first day kids went back - I couldn’t even enjoy the silence I felt so rotten lol

bacteria are still everywhere, other respiratory bugs (like mould) spread in other ways that virus control may not catch.
