To think the bin men should have knocked on the door and apologised?

We've been having lots of problems with our bin collections... The last two times our black bin has been missed... We have to log it online..
Had to log it twice this time as it missed the first time. Went out this morning withy NDN blackberrying.. Mum was at home.. Came home to find our over the road neighbour coming out looking shocked. Evidently the bin lorry came when neighbours wife was in the garden. The lorry picked up the bin and tipped the rubbish in, not only that the bin went in and got crushed...
I only knew because my neighbour told me... As my Mum said we would have wondered what had happened to it..!
I've rung the council up and ordered a new bin. I did also say that it would have been courteous for them to ring the bell and explain what had happened to Mum... AIBU??

Why the sexism on here, anyway?
Have you never seen a female waste disposal operative?
Believe me the jobcentre don't just send men for these jobs, come on folks, we're equal now.

Babysharksmom · 23/09/2020 15:03

Bins often get crushed. No biggie
You are getting a new one. Hopefully no charge as it wasn't your fault
Not worth a second thought

Do you know @Devlesko in all my 40 odd years, I have never seen a oman woring on the bin lorry.

Weird.

Devlesko · 23/09/2020 15:47

They do honestly.
I live in an area of the NW with years of degeneration and lack of aspiration. But we have hearts of gold. Grin

Yes, the job centre send women for interviews too, and I've seen several.
I think jobs like this traditionally associated with men, since automation (if that's the right word) are becoming just as popular with women.
I'm not saying it's what they aspire to, but it's well paid.

I haven't been tempted myself yet, but it's good to know if we were starving I wouldn't be refused as female.

@Elderflower14

Neighbours are definitely not the type to nick our bin... Hope we don't have to pay for a new bin... Mum's car is on the drive so they could have guessed someone was at home!
There are two cars on my drive right now (I hope!) and nobody at home.

YABU to expect them to knock, and all a tad dramatic by the sounds of it but YWNBU to expect a new bin.

ExclamationPerfume · 23/09/2020 15:58

It happens a lot. Just order a new bin. No need for drama.

sneakysnoopysniper · 23/09/2020 16:24

When you log on to our local council there is an option to report "bin damaged" during collection.

Elderflower14 · 23/09/2020 17:25

@sneakysnoopysniper There is a lot of difference in between damaged and crushed!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Can't imagine the lorry did many more collections after that!!
