To cancel seeing my friend..?

I have plans to meet my friend for a coffee on Friday.

I’m starting to get really anxious now about the Covid cases rising and I’m thinking of cancelling meeting her.

Do you think I’m being a bit ott cancelling?
Would you go?

I would go but I would perhaps take the coffee outdoors and have a bottle of hand sanitiser. I think we need to accept that this thing is here to stay and adapt our behaviours but how long will you keep cancelling plans for, you know?

blue25 · 22/09/2020 21:48

Cancel if you’re not comfortable. She may be feeling the same anyway. Not worth the risk in my view.

Rollawayyourstone · 22/09/2020 21:49

@pepsicolagirl

Yeah I know, you’re right.
But what about when it’s winter months and the option to sit outside isn’t there.

Yes you are being ott.

I'm seeing friends for a stroll round the park coffee tomorrow. It's so nice seeing them and really makes me appreciate face to face company rather than Zoom chats. Can you meet in a local park?

vanillandhoney · 22/09/2020 21:55

I have plans to see my mum on Friday and unless the rules change around mixing households, I'll be going ahead, as I inspect it may be my last chance for a while if restrictions keep tightening.

That said, if you feel safer, of course you should cancel.

lioncitygirl · 22/09/2020 21:58

I would. But that’s me. I am meeting some friends tomorrow - 3 of them.

I reckon there will be a lot of parasols and patio heaters this winter. But also - think of ski holidays, bundled up outside in the freezing cold with a hot chocolate. We manage.

We’ll adapt.

I would go myself but if you don't feel comfortable then you should cancel. Given the circumstances, i think anyone would understand.

All the more reason to have a catch up now while the weather is relatively mild. But if you don’t feel up to it then don’t. Could you do drinks over zoom or something instead one evening?

Yeah I guess we could. I just wasn’t sure if I’m being a bit ott.

Well no one here can tell you what to do op. You have to follow your own wishes and do the right thing for you. A good friend will understand. This is a horrible year and it’s ok to be anxious, no one should be making you feel silly for being concerned.

Justgorgeous · 22/09/2020 22:37

I would and I am carrying on within the guidelines. I’m carrying on going to the gym and my beauty treatments are booked for next week. I wear my mask, wash my hands regularly and I social distance. I’m not going to live in fear and I want to carry on with my life.

middleager · 22/09/2020 22:40

Where about are you OP? Looking at the data for your area may help if cases are low.

Boom45 · 22/09/2020 22:42

I'm sticking to the guidelines, and those guidelines say meeting a friend for a coffee is fine. No disrespect to anyone who feels more comfortable going further than the guidlines at all but personally I'm happy to go with the guidance.
