To Want to Know What's So Special about Hot Tubs?

Pembsgirl · 22/09/2020 19:21

I own a beautiful holiday cottage in West Wales, and often see people on FB saying that they'd like to rent a romantic holiday cottage for two BUT it must have a hot tub!

Personally I can't see the appeal, so what is it that makes people want them that badly?

I thought about getting one for the DCs and thought it might benefit my fibromyalgia/sore joints but DH said the cats might puncture it (not paying thousands for a proper one). Neighbours across the back build a huge shed to put one in and it takes up half their garden now.

Ahardknocklife · 23/09/2020 12:43

Maybe I'm missing something....we have a hot tub, chemical are checked daily, we change water as per the manufacturers recommendations. We do not have sex in it, nor do we pee in it. The cover is put on immediately after use. The reason we use it... its helps reduced aches and pains, relaxes us after a tough day at work and gives us with a better night's sleep.

I wouldnt personally use one in rented accommodation etc due to cleanliness but maybe thats because I have the luxury of one at home

Spidey66 · 23/09/2020 12:44

Public swimming pools are fine. You can, you know, swim in them. I don't see the point of sitting in a hot tub as opposed to a bath.

Yep - we used to go to lodges in forest of dean and loved the hot tub. So much that we got our own. Not an inflatable a real one, don't have sex in it, pee in it, don't wear make up or anything that would block filter. Thermal cover after use.

I can't understand why people think they are so dirty, yes some can be but lets face it so are some peoples houses. Surely it depends on you as an individual.

Time2change2 · 23/09/2020 13:00

I honestly think most people who are calling them dirty, smell, sex ponds etc have never had use of one for a week

Time2change2 · 23/09/2020 13:01

A proper one I mean, not blow up

Handsnotwands · 23/09/2020 13:03

@Laaalaaaa

Like a game of bingo this thread. Sex pond, people soup, etc. Only on Mumsnet do people have such an irrational hatred of them.
Surprised to not see environmental disaster yet [HOUSE]
EnidPrunehat · 23/09/2020 13:04

Covid Soup.

weneedboujiecocktails · 23/09/2020 13:13

I always end up drunk and having sex in them. Then I get UTIs. Really is very gross.

DanaScully53 · 23/09/2020 13:17

I should have said it's a shed with only that in it I think, but you never know. I often sit in my greenhouse with all the tools and stuff.Grin

DeliasDinner · 23/09/2020 13:24

I'd never ever use one in a holiday let, yuck. That said, we have our own Nordic spa, which is a wooden tub with seats, wood fired and no jets or anything so really easy to clean. Strictly family only.

TealIris · 23/09/2020 13:26

I always think they are sex soups! We have neighbours that have one and I think they are tacky.

TheKeatingFive · 23/09/2020 13:29

I honestly cannot understand what objections anyone could have to it! Do people really not like nice views, warm, bubbly water or spending time relaxing with their partners?

Nah.

Where’s the fun in that when you could be having a fit of the vapours about germ fest, sex ponds, foot mushrooms, Covid soup, etc?

Welcome to mumsnet. Grin

cushioncovers · 23/09/2020 13:29

A proper hot tub means that your accommodation is more attractive to some holiday makers in the winter rather than just the summer. Just my opinion.

Potionqueen · 23/09/2020 13:37

@Ahardknocklife we also have a hot tub and do exactly as you do. It’s just taken me 2 mins to check the chems and add chlorine. Modern hot tubs have an automatic clean cycle. Nothing so good as getting in the tub with a glass of wine and star gazing.

Elphame · 23/09/2020 13:42

There is a distinct difference between having one for private use at home and the ones in holiday cottages ( which are classed as commercial premises).

Exactly.

'I assume the "chavvy sex pond" types are the same who spend their lives worrying about how to wash their tea towels....'

Grin haha

ShebaShimmyShake · 23/09/2020 13:57

So in the Mumsnet class signifier list, it looks as though hot tubs are more acceptable than fruit bowls in the kitchen but still not as offensive as cake smashes. This is useful information.

I tried to find the exact rankings, but I didn't get any hits for "hot tub" when I searched for it on Debrett's. I tried "human soup" and "chavvy sex pond", but no luck there either. You'd think the first one would have come up with a list of approved wines or something.

WhatWouldJKRDo · 23/09/2020 14:12

My DH hates them as foetid sex ponds.

I love them as being incredibly soothing for arthritic joints.

Interesting. Are they shoes off households or shoes on?

Asking for Nancy Mitford.

malificent7 · 23/09/2020 14:14

I like them..but only with dp! Grin

Yesterdayforgotten · 23/09/2020 14:14

I imagine the sex pond commenters to not only be tea towel enthusiasts but their dh's to have a week's worth of white y fronts hung out on the line every Sunday Grin

Nottherealslimshady · 23/09/2020 14:15

I love hot tubs. I like being warm outside, looking at the stars without being on an uncomfortable chair, wrapped in layers. Hot water is soothing after hiking all day.

AllPlayedOut · 23/09/2020 14:21

Do people really not like nice views, warm, bubbly water or spending time relaxing with their partners? (As its clean as a whistle and we don't have sex in it, then obviously any comments about germs, infection or sex ponds aren't relevant!)

I like nice views and I'm looking at one now from the comfort of my chair, but I suspect that most people don't have a "Wonderful panoramic view of the North Downs" from their garden.(Neither do I)

I hate baths so there's no appeal there and I can't imagine that sharing one with some pointy elbowed fucker is going to make me like them anymore than I already do.
