To Want to Know What's So Special about Hot Tubs?

Pembsgirl · 22/09/2020 19:21

I own a beautiful holiday cottage in West Wales, and often see people on FB saying that they'd like to rent a romantic holiday cottage for two BUT it must have a hot tub!

Personally I can't see the appeal, so what is it that makes people want them that badly?

No idea. Pools of other people’s germs.

stopgap · 22/09/2020 20:57

We have an outdoor pool, so want to build an integrated hot tub beside it, but don’t otherwise use hot tubs.

Leaannb · 22/09/2020 20:59

@Pumpkinsarepurple

Rancid, germ invested ponds.

Why do people enjoy having a bath in the garden??

Why does anyone have anything in thier garden? My hot tub is a part of my pool and is used year round. Nothing beats a hot tub for soothing sore muscles while enjoying a drink or 3 after a hard day's work. I love sitting in mine on the rare occasions it snows. Eases my aching joints tremendously and so very relaxing

Do it. You will never regret it
Floralnomad · 22/09/2020 21:01

My sister has one and I use it sometimes , I definitely wouldn’t use one in a holiday home though as I’ve no idea whether it’s been properly cleaned / maintained .

gurglebelly · 22/09/2020 21:09

I love a hot tub, but they have to be a proper one and maintained regularly /between guests.

I like to relax in the hot tub with a prosecco and a book, or we put some quiet music on and just chat into the early hours

HalfIrish · 22/09/2020 21:12

Chav soup.

Elphame · 22/09/2020 21:14

We made the business decision not to have one at the holiday let. It may have got us a few extra bookings but the hygiene requirements are now very strict. Chemical levels need checking daily and the tub emptied and cleaned between guests

I'm actually shocked though by how many cottage owners don't follow the strict cleaning and water monitoring requirements. One I saw said they only change the water once every 3 months......

I'd never go in one

gurglebelly · 22/09/2020 21:15

Wouldn't have one at home though - it's really nice as a treat, but I think they are exceptionally antisocial in the average garden

BlueJay99 · 22/09/2020 21:24

I don't like them and wouldn't go in one. Especially not an inflatable one!

But friends / people seem to think they are fun and luxurious. Swingers probably like them too...

LeaveMyDamnJam · 22/09/2020 21:27

I can’t imagine anything worse. Nasty jets full of bacteria from god knows how many people shooting water into all your crevasses.
I wouldn’t use one if you paid me.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 22/09/2020 21:28

@Redcups64

Why do people keep calling them dirty and unhygienic?? They have filters and chlorine within them and levels are checked, have you never been to a swimming pool?
No. I don’t use public pools.

Wanders off shuddering.

MoistMolly · 22/09/2020 21:52

Those against hot tubs, are you also against public swimming pools?

Babyroobs · 22/09/2020 21:54

Horrible things ! We stayed in one in a holiday cottage and i caught horrible folliculitis from it that I still have scars from 2 years later. Never again.

Oilnwater · 22/09/2020 21:59

Giant Petri dishes !

Shizzlestix · 22/09/2020 22:01

Love mine. It’s great to look at the stars, drink in hand, utterly relaxed. It makes us talk rather than get on screens and ignore each other. It warms me up in cold weather, I use it as a cool tub in the heat, it makes me sleep better. I can enjoy my garden regardless of temperature and I get dive bombed by bats. Love it.

It’s idiotic, but I’m not surprised to see it, to call them sex ponds. The very last thing you do in them is have sex. Then you’d have to change the water.

CouldBeOuting · 22/09/2020 22:03

We always look for a hot tub when we book our U.K. holidays. Must be a proper hot tub with massage seats not an inflatable “bubbling bucket”.

We go for LONG (at least 10 miles) walks and a soak in a well maintained hot tub is lovely at the end of the day.

PerfidiousAlbion · 22/09/2020 22:04

A proper, expensive, large hottub is fun if its just the two of you.

You can sit outside with a glass of wine, chat, enjoy the view etc. and it adds a fun activity to your time.

Yes, theyre naff but it adds another element to your experience and I say this as someone who doesnt like water or baths and definitely doesnt have sex in them.

They’re fun and its different to just sitting on the sofa guzzling wine. Actually most holiday homes have terrible sofas.

Mumdiva99 · 22/09/2020 22:11

I would much rather a decent size jacuzzi bath. Clean water every time. Your own temperature. Inside. Private. With a book and wine holder across it please.

Stripesgalore · 22/09/2020 22:15

I love hot tubs but this still made me laugh!

BigusBumus · 22/09/2020 22:20

I'd never have one at home, (I'm a snob). But I'd love to have sex with my husband in one at a holiday place that someone else had to sterilise after. 😁

Ontheboardwalk · 22/09/2020 22:22

Stayed at a lodge in the Lake District just before lockdown with one, didn’t want it

The noise overnight kept the bed room next to it awake

It was inspected daily that made me think there was often damage to it

All hot tub activity was only allowed between 10 am and 10 pm which made me think they’d been big complaints

Saying that the two lodged behind us were occupied 12 hours a day!

TableFlowerss · 22/09/2020 22:23

Because it’s so relaxing and luxurious going in an outside hot tub with beautiful surroundings. The cold air on your face whilst you’re all toasty and warm taking in the scenery with your loved ones.

MsTSwift · 22/09/2020 22:23

We have one at home and it’s universally acknowledged that I am quite posh 😀
