Light-hearted. Sort of.

Through the years we've had numourous cute cards featuring babies wearing antlers and printed green wreathes and trees made by squishy little toddler hands. This year I want one of me and DP. (No DC we can force to be involved). So aibu to do a probably crude and hopefully witty card of our own this year?

If ianbu please hit me with your hilarious ideas that I can steal. Thank you

YABU. 🤮

Why not!

Don't have any suggestions though.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/09/2020 18:55

I wouldn't mind witty, but I wouldn't like crude. I'd feel awkward about putting it up where people could see it. Not that anybody will be visiting this year, but still...

Dee1975 · 22/09/2020 18:56

I think it’s a great idea. Why not? Although I think cheesier the better. Don’t make it serious (people will think your a twat!)

Bahhh · 22/09/2020 18:57

Definitely won't be serious!!!!!

Cute idea to do a Christmas card IMO, but I wouldn't make a crude one unless you want a private, cheeky one just for you. If you did a cute one and sent it out then that might be nice!

(I'm honestly just envisioning sexy Santa Claus outfits ahahah)

Home designed- yes. We do every year.

Witty-yes!

Photo of you-no (unless you’re a politician)

I suppose I mean crude as in a bit shit and representative of our humour - bit dry, sarcastic.

I mean, it kinda depends. It sounds like something I might do for our close circle of friends .. but my 90yo great aunts might still like a traditional crib scene!!

Know your audience, but there's definitely space for a bit of fun in some cases!!

EdinaMonsoon · 22/09/2020 19:59

If it was unmistakably an ironic image then yes, I would find this funny to receive. BUT, the emphasis must be on irony and obviously not serious because otherwise it will fall flat as a pancake!

DH works for a US company and the annual influx of family photo "holiday" cards we receive causes significant eye rolling and piss-taking in this family. Seriously...why do we need a photograph of someone (and their family) who works on the other side of the Atlantic and neither of us have actually met?!

It’s easy to get carried away with an idea like this and think it’s fabulous, only to wake up with your scalp prickling in horror the morning after you put them all in the post.

If you’re going to do it (and personally I’d rather cut off my own ears), consider several things.

It sounds like your children are old enough to have a view on it. Would whatever you do be embarrassing to them if one of the recipients was the parent of their friend? (The answer to this will always be yes, by the way). If so - don’t do it.

Find someone who doesn’t share your sense of humour. Show them the results of your labours. If the response is anything other than an immediate and genuine guffaw of laughter, don’t do it.

If the creation of the card requires you to even a little bit drunk, review the results the following morning. If you have any doubts - don’t do it.

If you’re the sort of people who introduce yourselves and say ‘we’re mad!’ - don’t do it.

In essence, the answer in almost every circumstance is: don’t do it.

Go for it!
Though I kind of like the cheesy American holiday cards... Shock

I dont know...I think this year is probably the wrong time to be sending Christmas cards with you posing as a happy couple when so many people may have either lost loved ones or be spending Christmas alone this year. It's a bit 'in your face' if you see what I mean.

A photo of you and OH with sprouts wearing Santa hats for your heads. Faces drawn on the sprouts and speech bubbles with messages.
