For about 2 months now I've been feeling really, seriously fatigued; I used to go for a half an hour jog a few times a week, walk all round the woods with my daughter, etc. Now I spend most of the day lying on the sofa and I get exhausted to the point of tears if I try and do too much. I'm nauseous, I've thrown up a few times but it's mostly just retching, I've lost my appetite a bit and only fancy plain carby food, I get aches all over, headaches, and in the past few weeks I've also started losing weight quite quickly, I've lost 8lbs in the past 3 weeks.

2.5 weeks ago I had blood tests. My thyroid, vitamin levels and iron are fine, and I'm not diabetic or pregnant. However, I had low platelets, markers for inflammation, decreased liver function, and too much water in my blood.

I just called the doctors to get the results for the second batch of blood tests that they did on Thursday and apparently everything is fine? The receptionist had down "no further action required". I don't understand how all of those things have resolved themselves in the space of 2 weeks and I don't feel better at all. Something feels wrong.

I've made another appointment with the doctors but I'm worried that now my bloods are normal they're not going to investigate much further. Has anyone had this sort of thing before, and if so, did you ever find out what was causing it? I'm not normally a hypochondriac (that's my partner!) but I'm starting to get really worried and I can't keep on living like this.

Are you pregnant?

RedHelenB · 22/09/2020 15:57

Sorry, just re read and you're not.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 22/09/2020 15:58

She said she’s not pregnant.

I definitely chase it up, it’s not normal to feel like that. Is it constant or does it come in bouts ?

Mindymomo · 22/09/2020 16:00

Weight loss is a cause for concern, so tell doctor, they will know what next steps need to be taken.

The fatigue is constant, though worse if I do too much, nausea comes and goes but is worse in the morning.

The bloody irony of the weight loss is that before I got ill I was actively trying to lose weight- going running, eating healthy- and was losing weight at a nice steady pace. Now I'm totally sedentary and all I can stand to eat is toast, pasta and chips and it's falling off! I would be overjoyed if I wasn't so worried

MS or fatigue syndrome. But we are not doctors.

LaDilettante · 22/09/2020 16:12

My partner has similar symptoms to yours and is quite convinced he had mild Covid back in March. He’s doing various tests at the moment but the doctor is still not able to tell him what’s wrong with him.

You also mentioned walking in the woods so I’d mention Lyme disease to your GP. I had Lyme and similar symptoms to yours and ended up being very ill and lost 5 kg in ten days. It might be worth checking.

You should certainly chase it up with your GP as it’s making your life so difficult. Stating the obvious here but don’t get fobbed off.

Zilla1 · 22/09/2020 16:13

Sorry OP but there are many rare, difficult to diagnose unrelated conditions that present like this, some of which are self-limiting/spontaneously resolve. In some countries, Lyme disease would be one possibility.

Good luck.

Ask GP to check cortisol levels

riotlady · 22/09/2020 18:34

Thank you, will make a note of these things. I know only my doctor can diagnose, I suppose I am just looking for hope that it is something that will either go away or be fixed. I just want to get stuck back into my life!

Could be liver related. Fatigue and sickness can be a sign but it can also be a sign of a whole array of things.. most minor some not.

Cookerhood · 22/09/2020 18:54

I don't think there's such a thing as "too much water in the blood". What did you mean by that? Anaemic?

yorkshirepudgf · 22/09/2020 18:56

I had the nauseous / fatigue issues a few years ago and was found to have a Helicobacter pylori infection which was resolved with a course of antibiotics (think there was 3 diff types that I took)

Sacredspace · 22/09/2020 18:59

Cortisol levels need checking in my opinion x

amijustlosingmymind · 22/09/2020 19:02

Addison’s disease

Get checked for it pronto.

Someone above me mentioned cortisol levels. This is what Addison’s disease is - no cortisol being produced by adrenal glands.

amijustlosingmymind · 22/09/2020 19:04

@riotlady

What is your colour like? Have you developed a tan or are your teeth darker round the gums or any darkening at knuckles/elbows?

Please get your cortisol checked.

DonLewis · 22/09/2020 19:08

Dude. Keep going to the doctor. You must see a Dr. Sometimes, with vague ish things, you really have to push. Just when you don't have the energy to do it.

Please make an appointment with your doctor.

That's literally what the doctor said, too much water in my blood. She asked if I drink a lot of water and I said it's a normal amount, she said she normally sees it in people who drink cider or beer all day. I think it's properly called hyponatremia- low salt, which can either be caused by just not having enough salt in your blood or it being diluted by too much water. But I'm not sure.

All a normal colour. I'm very pale naturally so it would be noticeable if I had any dark patches. Lots of people have mentioned cortisol though, so I will ask about it.

@riotlady

Christ almighty. Low sodium (salt) levels are also a symptom Of Addison’s disease.

Please get checked for it.

riotlady · 22/09/2020 19:53

@amijustlosingmymind thank you, there's a lot that fits there so I'll definitely bring it up.

If they do a cortisol test you need to not be taking anything containing oestrogen. It will give a false high reading.

The test also needs to be done as close to 8am as possible
