Turkey is awful.

If people want to panic buy stuff I don't want, they're very welcome to do so. Grin

nosswith · 22/09/2020 17:41

It would not surprise me. I'm glad we have never had turkey for Christmas- stops leftovers for days afterwards.

yolio · 22/09/2020 17:41

Turkey? You are all going a bit doo lally!

Turkey is overrated, it is run by a megolomaniac who imprisons his opponents at every turn, runs down the wimmins and lives in absolute luxury. Lol.

Get a flippin grip people. Take a photograph of one of those Birds or pull an image down from the internet, put it in the middle of the table, and have something else instead.

MissConductUS · 22/09/2020 17:56

I usually do a rib roast or chateaubriand for Christmas. Hardly anyone in the US has Turkey at Christmas.

Mollypolly2610 · 22/09/2020 17:56

Saw frozen turkey and goose in Tesco today. Who on earth would buy it now for Christmas? Especially when you’re not allowed any visitors.

BritWifeinUSA · 22/09/2020 18:04

We still have one in the freezer from last thanksgiving.

GuyFawkesDay · 22/09/2020 18:06

If there's only 4 of us I'm not faffing about with turkey. I'll get a top notch chicken instead.

Actually, not eating turkey for days might be a revelation!

Therunecaster · 22/09/2020 18:44

I got one on Sunday and made a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings tonight. Deeeeelicious!

MishyJDI · 22/09/2020 18:45

I think I'll stick to lamb.... :)

doctorhamster · 22/09/2020 18:47

Oh god please tell me we're not going back to panic buying again? I think that might just tip me over the edge

Jellycatspyjamas · 22/09/2020 18:48

incase people worry Xmas will be ruined without a turkey and stock up

I don’t know what’s more ridiculous tbh, thinking Christmas would be ruined without a turkey, or buying the bloody thing in September.

I8toys · 22/09/2020 18:50

Sod the turkey I'm more interested all the nice things to eat - nuts, cheeseboard, pate etc. I've added some cashew nuts to my online order.

Why should I have to? I have plenty of Turkeys wandering around...Wild and otherwise. I roasted a fresh one on Saturday
TheDuchessofMalfy · 22/09/2020 18:55

Tbh if we have to eat something else, we have to eat something else!

That’s not the main thing about Christmas for me!

GameSetMatch · 22/09/2020 19:20

My parents usually buy a turkey around September to do a trial run of the Christmas dinner, I’m not sure why? it tastes the same every year anyway.

ToastyCrumpet · 22/09/2020 19:23

You can’t wipe your arse on a turkey.

SaltyAndFresh · 22/09/2020 19:25

I still have a turkey from last year. My DB bought one and o was too late to cancel ours Smile

MissConductUS · 22/09/2020 20:09

I'd probably bin it unless your freeze reliably runs at or below 0 degrees F. That's a long time in the freezer.
SewingWarriorQueen76 · 22/09/2020 20:25

Home Bargains have advent calendars. Just saying....... GrinAnd the Xmas tubs of Celebrations, we'll they aren't going to make it to December are they and it would be rude to leave them there........

Oysterbabe · 22/09/2020 20:30

Surely the same amount of turkey will be required irrespective of lockdown. Unless people are panic buying multiple turkeys I reckon we'll be OK.
My turkey is still trotting round my dad's field, growing nice and fat.

I saw a guy in Lidl today who had a trolley full of loo roll and nothing else. Fucksake. 😑😂

rslsys · 22/09/2020 20:40

All the turkeys for Christmas are currently hatched and being grown on. There is no chance to increase the number of birds in the production cycle.
The Turkey industry estimates that 4.5 million people normally go away at Christmas. Either abroad or to relatives. These people will not be abroad or staying at Aunty Madge's. Therefore it is predicted there will be a shortfall of turkey this Christmas. If people can't get turkey, they will opt for chicken. These can be produced quicker than turkey but given the recent shutdown at the Banham Poultry plant in Norfolk, there is now a shortage of chicken in the supply chain.
If you fancy poultry for Christmas, don't leave it too late to put your order in!
