Name changed for this as apparently it’s an unpopular opinion; but I think it’s important to protect our children.

Please can I encourage you to send a letter like this into all your children’s schools.

Dear Headteacher

I am writing to inform you that (Child Name) is exempt from wearing a face covering of any kind, as per government legislation.

There are many exemptions from wearing a face mask, which incorporate hidden disabilities, including but not limited to:

(I) because of any physical or mental impairment or illness or disability (Section 6 of the equality act 2010)

(II) without severe distress

Section 6 of the equality act states that schools must not discriminate against a student because of their disability.

I am concerned that my child will be singled out for not wearing a mask and would like to remind you that this is also discriminatory.

(Childs Name) is under no obligation to provide proof of this exemption and is protected from doing so by the Data Protection Act 2018

I have also sent a copy of this letter to our solicitors.

Kind Regards
(Your Name)

Oh dear, a precious mummy. God help us all.

Hingeandbracket · 22/09/2020 13:49

@ChequerBoard

OP is this your entry for a new 'Daft Thread of the Day' competition?

If so, top work- otherwise get a fucking grip.

Agreed. This is dafter than the Wimbledon attitude thread.
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/09/2020 13:50

Its not like he has to wear it all day. My ds hates them but he will just have to get over it. Uts only in the corridors and communal areas. Of it were all day I might agree with you.

Why have you sent a copy to your solicitor?

majesticallyawkward · 22/09/2020 13:50

Is your ds actually exempt op or does he just not like them? And why would everyone send your stupid letter? You realise most people and school aged children are fine wearing a mask for these short times, not everyone is screaming hysterically over non issues.

If he's exempt there's a system in place at the school. Whether he's asked for a pass or not other kids will notice he is not wearing a mask anyway and if they're going to comment it single him out they will and no amount of imaginary solicitors will stop that.

Newnamenewopenme · 22/09/2020 13:50

School have made masks compulsory in corridors and the dinner hall. They are giving passes to exempt students but I don’t want my son pestered by every teacher about where his mask is.

It’s much better then giggling about his Mum instead as he walks past! We’ve only got 6 in my school that are exempt, they all have a pass but we also get a Monday morning email reminder with pictures to save us asking - it’s a well known fact the kids spontaneously combust if asked to show their pass.

The DfE says that masks should not be part of uniform. Schools should not be enforcing them, they are OPTIONAL

Our LA have told us they are compulsory around school as the corridors are so narrow. The kids seem to enjoy wearing them on the whole, it’s something to jazz up their uniform.

Out of curiosity, what did the school respond with? And how long did it take your solicitor to stop laughing and reply - plus what did they say?

SantaClaritaDiet · 22/09/2020 13:50

if your child REALLY was unable to wear a mask, the last thing you would want if for others not to wear one either.

Masks protect others, not yourself. The more people around wear mask, the better the protection.

The sad reality is that people resist mask for that exact reason. If a mask for a direct protection to the wearer, everybody would magically be fine with them.

Kanaloa · 22/09/2020 13:53

If the school is already on top of issuing passes for exempt children, what do you hope this letter will achieve? I don’t think they’re ‘pestering’ your child, they’re probably saying ‘do you have a mask’ and your child is showing his pass. What would you like to happen instead of this? And what do you think your solicitor can do to help? I don’t think solicitors generally take on many cases of ‘pestering.’

ghostyslovesheets · 22/09/2020 13:53

Maybe time to hone school op if u have such an issue with it

ghostyslovesheets · 22/09/2020 13:53

Home !

user1471504210 · 22/09/2020 13:55

Do you know what will happen if you send a letter in? You will look like a twat and the people who work at your child’s school will roll their eyes.

This message was sent using 5G technology.

Gazelda · 22/09/2020 13:56

@arethereanyleftatall

Actually, as a result of this thread, let's all write a quick email to our schools thanking them for a great job.
Agreed. The power of a Mumsnet thread 😂
chrislilleyswig · 22/09/2020 13:56

I'm guessing OP is one of those Us for Them bampots

I've seen that letter circulated as well as the others with LIABILITY sprinkled through

They don't do their "campaigning" any favours Grin

OneForMeToo · 22/09/2020 13:57

Are you the new bat shit mum in reception Doing half days currently? 🤨

Please don’t send that. It’s stupid.

ceeveebee · 22/09/2020 13:58

My children would not be exempt (if this was a thing in primary schools which isn’t isn’t) so no I won’t be part of your campaign!

swabthenose · 22/09/2020 13:58

I'm trying to raise my kid not to be a dick. So no.

Srictlybakeoff · 22/09/2020 13:58

This is so wrong on so many levels,
Teachers are putting their own health at risk to teach your children. Many of them will be very stressed . Whatever your views about mask wearing why would you send such an upsetting and aggressive letter to people who are trying to follow government recommendations, and manage as well as they can.

ElizabethG81 · 22/09/2020 13:59

A copy has been sent to our solicitors 😂

Have you also logged it with 101?

Your poor child having to go into school after this 😂

Londonmummy66 · 22/09/2020 13:59

Grow up

QueenBlueberries · 22/09/2020 13:59

Example of letter that one could send to one's school:

^Dear Management, teaching staff and everyone,

Thank you for all the extra hard work you are putting into school to try and ensure that our children stay safe. It must be extremely difficult to teach in those conditions.

All the staff remain in my thoughts and I hope that you all remain safe and in good health.

Thank you

A. Parent^

Thisismytimetoshine · 22/09/2020 13:59

Christ alive! This is the stupidest post I've seen in a very long time, and you've had some stiff competition Hmm

Leafbeans · 22/09/2020 14:00

Others wearing their masks are helping to keep your son, who cannot wear one safe. Why do you want to persuade people to write in? Weird.

lioncitygirl · 22/09/2020 14:00

No thanks.

Browneyesbigbum · 22/09/2020 14:01

Oh dear!

crankysaurus · 22/09/2020 14:01

Have you tried just calling them and having a normal conversation?

chrislilleyswig · 22/09/2020 14:02

Why name change OP?

Don't you have the courage of your convictions?
