Name changed for this as apparently it’s an unpopular opinion; but I think it’s important to protect our children.

Please can I encourage you to send a letter like this into all your children’s schools.

Dear Headteacher

I am writing to inform you that (Child Name) is exempt from wearing a face covering of any kind, as per government legislation.

There are many exemptions from wearing a face mask, which incorporate hidden disabilities, including but not limited to:

(I) because of any physical or mental impairment or illness or disability (Section 6 of the equality act 2010)

(II) without severe distress

Section 6 of the equality act states that schools must not discriminate against a student because of their disability.

I am concerned that my child will be singled out for not wearing a mask and would like to remind you that this is also discriminatory.

(Childs Name) is under no obligation to provide proof of this exemption and is protected from doing so by the Data Protection Act 2018

I have also sent a copy of this letter to our solicitors.

Kind Regards
(Your Name)

@emmathedilemma

you should probably contact the Daily Mail while you're at it.
😆 this!
AldiAisleofCrap · 22/09/2020 15:37

DS doesn’t have medical needs on the system. It wasn’t until masks became a thing that we knew he struggled with them do he he is not exempt and need to grow up and wear his masks. You as his mother need to enforce that.

The DfE says that masks should not be part of uniform. Schools should not be enforcing them, they are OPTIONAL
No they are not optional .

luckylavender · 22/09/2020 15:38

Why? We're in the middle of a pandemic. It sucks for all of us. Unless you have a genuine reason, don't make your child a snowflake.

ItalianHat · 22/09/2020 15:38

No one is under any legal obligation to prove their exception

No. And no one is under any legal obligation to behave like a disrespectful selfish tosser, either.

But the more people who behave as you are behaving, the closer we get to "No Exemptions," forcing even those with strong legitimate reasons to either wear a mask, or stay indoors.

BlackberrySky · 22/09/2020 15:38

This gets even better OP! Originally I thought you were bleating about your exempt child being asked to prove their exemption, but no! Your child is not exempt, but you want to pretend they are because they don't fancy wearing a mask in order to keep schools open. On top of that, you don't want the school to question that. I hope they call you out for your anti-social behaviour. Oh but wait, your ridiculous letter does that anyway, doesn't it?

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 22/09/2020 15:39

As though schools weren't struggling as it is you have to make life even harder for them.

Why would you not want to prevent the spread of covid?

Utterly pathetic, OP.

Sirzy · 22/09/2020 15:39

I have anxiety (documented, treated) wearing a mask for too long leads to panic building. However because I have to pick Ds up from in the building at school and they have asked me to wear a mask I do. It’s not long and it helps keep schools that tiny bit safer.

I avoid shops as much as possible but will wear one when I need to because I can albeit uncomfortably and I will do to help others.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 22/09/2020 15:39

No thank you, I won't be sending any such ridiculous letter. My family and I are not medically exempt (apart from my own mother who is but still chooses to wear them for the benefit of others) therefore we will be co-operating with the rules for the common good.

I hope people in the future show more consideration towards you and yours than you seem willing to for others.

x2boys · 22/09/2020 15:40

My son doesn't have to prove his disabilities to be exempt from mask wearing either ,however it is immediately obvious to anyone why he can't ,being a non verbal ten year old ,who has no concept that we are in a pandemic or why others wear masks .

listsandbudgets · 22/09/2020 15:40

Dear School

Just a brief note to let you know that namchange227 junior is exempt from wearing a mask for medical reasons.

Thank you for the efforts you're all making to keep the school safe.

Regards

Namechange227

As for me I won't be sending any such note as my DCs have no exemption. Even if they did a note like the one in the OP is simply antagonistic and will just cause stress.

ItalianHat · 22/09/2020 15:40

To allow those of us who are exempt to go to places without being abused (and most people are happy to have an exemption card to show if asked) by arsehole members of public, you and your precious son need to wear a fucking mask

This.

And I'm really sorry for all those who are abused when they are physically unable to wear a mask. Careless disrespectful and self-indulgent people make it so much worse for you Flowers

AldiAisleofCrap · 22/09/2020 15:41

TRIGGER: sexual assault mentioned

@NameChange2271 severe distress is an exemption for situations such as a woman being raped while the perpetrators hand was on her face. You and your ds need to get a grip!
Stop trying to twist the law, it’s an insult to those that would be in severe distress.

Crankley · 22/09/2020 15:42

Hysterical letter, loved the bit about sending a copy to solicitors - I bet it will give the teachers a good laugh.

I love how you have the courage of your convictions and haven't name changed for this thread....oh.... wait a minute..... Hmm

No-one enjoys wearing frace masks, I'm claustrophobic and can't wait to get to my gate to rip the fucking thing off but funnily I prefer wearing it to catching the virus.

CoronaIsShit · 22/09/2020 15:42

Bloody pathetic, pig ignorant, entitled snowflakes like you OP are the precise reason we are heading back into lockdown.

If my 9 year old, and ASD teen with learning difficulties, can wear one then so can your secondary school aged child who has no medical or psychological issues but just finds it uncomfortable as we all do but do it so we can prevent infecting others.

People like you make me sick (no pun intended Hmm).

Newnamenewopenme · 22/09/2020 15:43

Do you wear a mask OP?

kimlo · 22/09/2020 15:43

I wont send that letter. We all have a condition that means we could have an exeption if wearing a mask caused difficulties, but it doesn't so we wear one. I wear one all day at work, the dds in communal areas.

A mask makes me sad and I don't beleive in them anyway isn't an exemption.

The people you are effecting aren't the school, it's not the government it's the vunerable. And you are making it harder for people with actual exeptions to go out.

Cloudhopping · 22/09/2020 15:46

This sort of thing is really getting on my wick now. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. Please don’t do this OP, you’re making yourself look like a selfish, entitled twat.

NiceTwin · 22/09/2020 15:46

Nope. I wouldn't send that letter, there are ways of conveying those sentiments without being arsey about it.

And as for sending it to a solicitor, that is just a little embarrassing.

30under · 22/09/2020 15:47

Absolutely not. If anything I would be writing to the school to say I support the measures they put in place to support staff and children.

I would be more than happy for teachers to wear masks if they wanted to.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 22/09/2020 15:48

So basically Your son is a Brat and won't wear a mask?

Todaythiscouldbe · 22/09/2020 15:48

@NameChange2271

No one has to have an “condition”

The law says if it causes you severe distress you don’t have to wear one. But it also says you don’t have to prove it; so someone wearing a mask may or may not have a “condition” and it’s no ones business but their own

So does it cause him 'severe distress' or is he mildly uncomfortable like the rest of us? There's a huge difference. I loathe mask wearing and avoid all situations where it is necessary if at all possible but when I do wear one it's to protect other people.
pointythings · 22/09/2020 15:48

After OP's updates, I feel very vindicated.

Vintage covidiot.

Azif · 22/09/2020 15:48

How old is your child? Do they understand the reasoning behind wearing masks?
If he struggles get him a different type of face covering.
I don’t think I’ll be threatening my children’s school with solicitors as I prefer to have an adult conversation about concerns we may have 🤦‍♀️

Estrellente · 22/09/2020 15:49

Wow.
What an idiotic thread. No wonder we’re not winning against this disease.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 22/09/2020 15:50

Also, you do realise that this letter will probably be a topic of hilarity around the staff room at break times and turn you into a laughing stock, yeah?
