Is this really not enough??

Breakfast: 1/4 cup of porridge

Lunch: Piece of fruit or salad

Dinner: veggies and a bit of chicken

I never ate much to begin with, just the things I ate weren't particularly healthy. Obviously I don't eat the same exact things everyday but it's around the same amount of calories yet apparently this isn't enough?

Will the consequences of this be that bad? Please help!

Has there been a move to shut down pro anorexia discussion forums or something? MN seem to be getting more of these posts asking people to endorse diets which are quite clearly at the level of an eating disorder. Anyone able to type on the internet knows that is not enough food.

GoldieGal · 22/09/2020 09:04

@gindinner I try to eat more nuts as I know they're really good but I hate them.Grin I do like Avocado though so might try to eat that more often. Any other healthy fats you recommend? Thank you. x

"Will the consequences be that bad"?

Err...yes.

VeraPink · 22/09/2020 09:05

I just input your daily calories into my fitness pal. I put in one quarter cup (dry) portion of porridge with soya milk for breakfast, one banana for lunch, and a whole chicken breast with two cups of oven roasted vegetables for dinner.

That comes out at 768 calories. That is simply not enough food. Even a VLCD requires around 1000 calories. You’re eating only a little over a third of what you should be every day. This is not sustainable, OP - you are going to make yourself very ill.

weepingwillow22 · 22/09/2020 09:05

It sounds like what I would eat on a 500 calories fasting day.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/09/2020 09:06

Up the porrodge to a larger portion and dice a banana in to it.

Add in a boiled egg to your salad at lunch and have the fruit in addition to the salad.

Have a whole chicken breast or salmon fillet with the vegetables and maybe some boiled new potatoes. You need some roughage.
@LionessRoar Yes it is serious? No, I don't have a history of eating disorders. I am trying to reply, sorry.
Yes, it's serious . If you continue eating like this you will become very ill, probably suffer organ damage and probably die.

Takingontheworld · 22/09/2020 09:08

There's no way you're eating that and not seriously ill/feeling ill/have disordered eating issues. I mean you must be barely able to function or stay awake!?

olympicsrock · 22/09/2020 09:09

It’s a ridiculously small amount.

lifesalongsong · 22/09/2020 09:09

Yet more MN food weirdness, if an adult woman doesn't know that amount of food is way from normal she needs professional help not random internet comments

AriesTheRam · 22/09/2020 09:10

It depends. Are you 7 stone wet through or 20 stone?

GoldieGal · 22/09/2020 09:11

@Comefromaway today I ate fruit but I added salad so it didn't sound like I just eat a piece of fruit everyday. Chicken Caesar salad is one I have fairly often. I also occasionally have smoothies or veg and hummus.

You say your weight and BMI is stable and within normal range?

I wonder if you're underestimating your intake, perhaps eating more than you think during the day or getting calories from drinks? It's really common to underestimate.

Anyway, delete the diet app and stop monitoring your calories and intake so closely. If you want to get healthier, add in more fruit and unlimited vegetables, go for more slow release carbs, have a treat a day and exercise regularly and stop obsessing about food if you can. Smile

Comefromaway · 22/09/2020 09:13

Hummus is good, A tablespoon of hummus with a large mixed salad/veg sticks to dip and maybe half a wholemeal pitta bread would be a much better lunch.

IncandescentSilver · 22/09/2020 09:13

I'd assume you had a really low metabolic rate and were perhaps elderly with a sedentary lifestyle.

I cannot think why anyone would eat such a diet, because even if you wanted to be skinny, your metabolic rate would go so low that it would be counter productive in terms of weight loss.

Anyone would know its a very low amount of calories, so I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve in posting on here?

BanningTheWordNaice · 22/09/2020 09:13

If you’re putting it into my fitness pal and it’s telling you it’s not enough calories then it’s really not enough, MFP calculates v low calories as it is.

OP I think you should book to see a professional nutritionist, the diet you are living on will not be providing you with the necessary nutrients for a healthy life. If it’s all you are used to eating, it will take work to structure your meals better—a nutritionist can help. I expect you’ll be given a new diet to follow, something like:

Breakfast: slightly bigger portion of your breakfast
Snack: e.g. piece of fruit
Lunch: proper salad with veg, meat and some carbs
Snack: e.g. boiled egg and a milky drink
Dinner: proper dinner with multiple veg, meat, some carbs

12309845653ghydrvj · 22/09/2020 09:15

It sounds like you’re not getting enough calories, but equally worryingly not enough nutrients and vitamins for your body.

GoldieGal · 22/09/2020 09:15

@happythankyoumoreplease I just came to ask for help / advice since I know google can be unreliable. I'm definitely not here to brag because I clearly don't know what I'm doing when it comes to food.

OP posts:
yomommasmomma · 22/09/2020 09:15

Clearly this is not enough food. I think that you must have an eating disorder, even the way you post about this implies severe issues with food.

BabyLlamaZen · 22/09/2020 09:15

What about wholegrains and some carbs? Do you have any energy?

BabyLlamaZen · 22/09/2020 09:16

Yes it sounds like you do have an issue op. Hopefully you can start getting some help!

CloudyVanilla · 22/09/2020 09:16

Even if you generously estimate the calories content of those meals, based on my own experience calorie counting you're probably having around a max of 350 calories for breakfast, 200 for lunch and at best 500 for dinner. That is 1050 calories and likely less if you are eating lean chicken and undressed salad.

Why are you posting this? Do you think it's enough? I think basic education tells us that there are basically no adults with a BMR of less than a thousand. If you are anything over 5 foot and anything less than absolutely sedentary then that is far too little.

12309845653ghydrvj · 22/09/2020 09:16

OP what are your hair, skin and nails like? I expect you might find they don’t grow quickly and strong?

Hardbackwriter · 22/09/2020 09:16

If your BMI is normal (what I assume you mean by 'fine') then this is not all you're eating. It's as simple as that.
