Pubs to shut at 10

According to news night 1 of the measures is to close pubs and restaurants at 10pm. I really can’t see this making any real difference, and it’s just delaying the inevitable?

I can see it being counterproductive

Many go for a drink and go home around 10
others go out for the last hour

To me it will lead to, maybe not twice as many but, definitely more people in pubs at the same time

Surely people will just go back to each others houses which is worse?!

Yes, can't imagine people will just meekly buss off home at 10pm for an early night.

Unless, of course, the government then introduce a curfew and only those with a very good legitimate reason to be out get away without a fine.

pigsDOfly · 21/09/2020 23:34

*buzz not buss

ineedaholidaynow · 21/09/2020 23:35

Haven't some countries introduced a curfew, maybe that will be the next step, so not quite so easy to nip back to a mate's house

cheeseislife8 · 21/09/2020 23:46

This is not going to make a bit of difference

GabsAlot · 21/09/2020 23:48

i asked my dh what he wold have done had he been younger-big pub goer

he said just go earlier to get pissed-this wont work

OhTheRoses · 21/09/2020 23:58

Might it stop some of the mindless drunkenness that lands people in A&E though.

Osirus · 22/09/2020 00:04

Utterly pointless. I’m very disappointed that this is all they’ve come up with. It’s like at the beginning when BJ simply said “don’t go on cruises.”

They should shut the pubs completely. Keep restaurants open as less likely to mingle with others. My heart sank when the pubs opened. I knew this was going to happen.

I doubt it, if people are of a mind to get that drink they'll do it. Either by starting earlier or going elsewhere.

People stay out till the early hours on Fridays and Saturdays and in my city, there are a few very late opening pubs which get really busy after 10pm in general so I can see how it would make a difference.

Half arsed

A few weeks ago I was like all of you. But somehow it does help

Our local pubs are generally used by over 50s who tend to pop off home by 8ish. It would be more effective in town where the young ones go.
