She must have said it every day since I started back working in the office last week. "I think we should just all catch covid and get it over with, then we can all get back to work properly". The first couple of times I said I knew people who had died,, that I had 2 elderly parents, that we have a colleague who is shielding, that I have friends who are still not "over it" months after catching it... Just that really. How can people be so crass. I said nothing today just didn't answer her. Wh'ats the point that's her view and it aint changing...

I would ask her politely to stop saying it, explain it upsets you because you know people who have been very ill. You can say you respect her right to think differently but please can you not discuss it any more.

Yanbu. I can't be arsed to listen to that sort of thing, but you do need to be polite!

FourEyesGood · 21/09/2020 18:47

YANBU. She’s being highly insensitive - and also pretty stupid, considering that there have been cases of people catching it more than once.

coffeelover3 · 21/09/2020 18:52

Yeah it's making me very anxious that she keeps saying it. I suppose lots of people think like that. I don't think she'd take kindly to me saying 'don't say that again' or a polite version. Today I just did a 'mmm' when she ranted about it. I don't think she minds if I don't answer :)

I think she's afraid and the uncertainty is wearing on her. That's understandable, but her solution is not. Either don't engage with her, or if you feel you must, point out that if everyone got it at once there'd be thousands needing hospitalization that would be unavailable.

BlackForestCake · 21/09/2020 19:04

“Tell you what, you go and catch it and then afterwards you can tell us what it was like, if you survive.”

Newnamenewopenme · 21/09/2020 19:08

Can you respond with a “yea you’ve said” she might get sick of saying it if she realises she sounds like a broken record

Southernsoftie76 · 21/09/2020 19:08

YANBU there’s a few with the same thoughts on here, basically fuck the vulnerable and it’s a survival of the fittest. I don’t understand this attitude and it sickens me.

Flittingaboutagain · 21/09/2020 19:09

Smile "I heard you the first time"

kimlo · 21/09/2020 19:13

having a covid doesn't mean you don't have to follow the guidelines. So she can get covid, pass it on to someone who might not be as healthy as her, but she will still need to follow the guidelines.

Nobody knows how long you have immunity for.

Diva66 · 21/09/2020 19:13

I’d tell her to eff off.

SomewhereEast · 21/09/2020 19:18

Anyone droning on about Covid every day is being unreasonable at this stage.

ktp100 · 21/09/2020 19:26

People are so fucking stupid.

I know someone who had covid, early 30's, no pre-existing conditions, very fit (runs marathons) and 8 weeks on she still can't breathe properly, has zero energy and still can't taste anything!

We can't guarantee that this virus will treat us well! Millions will be left with long-term respiratory damage, costing the NHS billions in treatment.

I wish people would just realise that we need to protect the NHS and stop dicking about. Lockdown was only ever about protecting the NHS. It seems like the very people who moan about masks and other measures are absolutely anti lockdown but their bloody pigheadedness will end up putting us back there if they're not careful!

coffeelover3 · 21/09/2020 20:57

that's just it blackforestcake - she "thinks" she had it in February... it was "very mild" didn't affect her at all. that's why she thinks we all need to just 'get it over with'. I think she believes you get it for 2 weeks and then you're fine again - or in her case, a couple of days.

SoManyActivities · 21/09/2020 20:59

Yes, I would go with a 'so you keep saying' type response and change the subject. Hopefully she will get the message. Its not worth causing a drama over.

Burnthurst187 · 21/09/2020 21:10

It never ceases to amaze me how many poorly educated people are wondering around out there

Catching Covid once doesn't then mean that you can't ever catch it again

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 21/09/2020 21:11

Tell her if you fancy listening to an arse you are perfectly capable of farting thank you.

yeOldeTrout · 21/09/2020 21:18

Headphones.

SidekickSally · 21/09/2020 21:24

I find most people are pretty blasé about COVID unless they’ve been or someone close to them is properly affected by it. I’d just ignore her, there are plenty like her around. Do all you can to protect yourself because you’ll then be protecting others.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 21/09/2020 21:33

I feel the same as your colleague.

Well not quite. I don't think we will all get it, and most, even vulnerable recover, especially now our NHS isn't overwhelmed and treatments are more successful. I do think we need to get on with life and that far too many people are blaming Covid, when they are just lazy or disorganised.

BUT
I wouldn't dream of labouring the point with people who feel differently.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 21/09/2020 21:37

Absolutely spot on..

Sadly
There are so many people on here unable to look at reliable research (Imperial college , John Hopkins etc ) and simply to the maths..

What was said today by Patrick Balance and Chris Whitt's laid it out clearly .

The fucking anti dementors are going to kill people with their 'I'm alright jack' attitude.

WiserOlder · 21/09/2020 22:03

I agree with her. Im not announcing it ten times a day but im gutted that 2 good friends have lost her jobs, my daughter is depressed, i am isolated. We are staring down the barrel of a bad recession. It is such a tedious over reaction.

Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 22:07

Op I wonder if we work in the same place, because I hear that too Grin

I cannot understand the logic? People can catch it again, it's a virus like the common cold or flu?.it's not going to help us to catch it.
