Will I have to cancel my holiday?

I have a trip planned to Cyprus this weekend for our anniversary. First holiday in several years. I’m worried with the way the U.K. is heading it could become tricky for us to go? We will be having the grandparents staying over to look after the kids for us. I’m worried that there will be a lockdown and they won’t be able to stay. Does anyone think that’s likely? If that happens I guess I will lose all the money I paid for my holiday? Sad

@chocolatesaltyballs22

Please stop scaremongering the poor OP. Lots of people have been on holiday and not had problems. It can be done if you are sensible. Cyprus infection rates are low.

I hope you get your holiday OP.

This.

Op, I suspect a lot of the answers are from those who would love to be going away but for whatever reason can't and begrudge others who do.

If the FCO says you can travel and you feel comfortable doing so, then go.

I might have concerns about your sitters though in your situation. However, I don't think a lock down of the kind we saw earlier this year is that likely.

Why would you assume others are begrudgers but your concerns are valid? Hmm

I'm in Cyprus and I feel safer here than I would in the UK. The pandemic has been dealt with extremely well here compared to other places. Tourist areas are following protocol and transition through the airports is smooth.

My DH is due to go back to the UK this weekend. The event he was going to attend has been cancelled and his flights have been changed twice and he still thinks he's going.

Yes make sure you have decent insurance but also for peace of mind Google the provision the government has made here if tourists catch it whilst they're here.

But I agree everything could change tomorrow. I wouldn't cancel just yet.

I hope you get your holiday and have a good time.
We are due to go jersey ( not my choice.) We are traveling on 3rd which is our anniversary and I have a big birthday 2 days later.
I think we just have to play it by ear.

Gosh, it doesn't take long for all the judgemental covid misery guts to come out the woodwork does it?! Hmm

OP, if I were you I would find out what the last date I could cancel the hotel without incurring any extra costs was, and make the decision whether to go or not on that date, using the most up to date information available then (I assume with the BA flights you could cancel any time for the voucher? Check that too)

In the event that the mixed households rule changed while you were away, I do not see why you'd need to rush back early, as at that point your parents and children would be in the same household and so rule compliant. (If you wanted to be really anal about it when you return, your parents could quickly leave the house before you entered it, so you're not in the house at the same time)

Landladymews · 21/09/2020 12:31

Thanks, yes we had thought of that and are planning an immediate no contact handover so there should be no risk to the grandparents.

Because they are my concerns, they may not be the OP's concerns, and if so, that is great. I am not a member of the 'you are irresponsible to go on holiday brigade' and I wish her well if she decides to go.

I hope you're able to go and that you have a lovely time. 💐

Your parents will be fine to look after them while you are away , even if the government change the rules while you’re on holiday .
So many self righteous people on here, you can book and go on holiday , I did and lots of people I know have too .
We had a great time and would do it again.
Just make sure you have things in place and excess money if you have to catch an earlier flight or if there is an emergency at home .
Don’t let others make you feel guilty for living your life , covid isn’t going anywhere so no point in putting your life on hold despite what the scaremongers say.

I’m out in turkey visiting my fiancé at the moment and the numbers here are way lower than back home, so I don’t feel selfish about being here at all, should people like me stay away from our loved ones for months or even years for the sake of a virus which has a death rate of about 1%? No thanks - I hope you get your holiday OP it sounds like you’ve made all the arrangements you can and are sensible enough to make sure you can quarantine when you get back if necessary
