Window cleaner has left water marks on all the windows

We've had a window cleaner for a while now, when he did our windows in our old house he did a really good job, I could always tell they had been done.

We've recently moved house and I've still kept the same window cleaner as we only moved 5 minutes up the road and I was always satisfied with his work. He came today to clean my windows and he was here no longer than 20 minutes. In my old house I always seemed to be out when he came round so can't say how long he took to do them there. I was quite surprised that he'd been and gone that fast so went and checked all the windows and they had all been left with water marks on. He didn't dry a single window. So now they're all dry but with horrible water marks on them. I then checked the bedroom window above the conservatory as I know that it's an awkward window to access. He has not cleaned that one at all! It's still got dirt on it. I understand that it is a hard window to reach but at the same time, he's a window cleaner, it's his job... I would've thought he'd of been well equipped to be able to do it or if not, at least let me know but no instead he just didn't do it. He also knew I was at home as I popped my head out the window to let him know that I had transferred the money.

Perhaps he had an emergency he had to go to and that's why he's done half a job and I will message him to check but it sounds a daft question but do your window cleaners always dry your windows afterwards or not?

My windows have never been dried and I’ve never expected them to be. It would take ages and cost more, surely?

And they get wet when it rains anyway.

Potionqueen · 21/09/2020 11:23

My window cleaner never dries my windows. He uses a brush on a long stick that spurts water. All the Windies around here use the same method.

LesLavandes · 21/09/2020 11:52

You need to speak to him, not us!!!

MaverickDanger · 21/09/2020 11:55

Just check before you do what I did & have a big moan, before realising it was the windows being dirty on the inside.

After I cleaned the inside, I realised the outside wasn’t that bad!

vanillandhoney · 21/09/2020 11:57

Are you sure the watermarks are on the outside?

When was the last time you cleaned the inside of the windows? I find when the outside is done, the dirt on the inside looks far more obvious Grin

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 21/09/2020 11:58

Do window cleaners ever dry windows? I have never had one who did and I wouldn't expect it.

missyB1 · 21/09/2020 12:01

Is he using the waterpole system? I’m afraid it’s not as good as hand cleaning and can leave watermarks.

holliem91 · 21/09/2020 12:07

Thanks everyone. I have no idea if window cleaners ever normally dry windows after they've cleaned them. Today is the first time I was actually home when he did them so I wouldn't imagine he's ever dried them but I also never noticed water marks on them afterwards when he did our old house. My mum said her window cleaner dries hers afterwards so I expected the same but maybe very few window cleaners actually do dry.

Yeah good point @MaverickDanger and @vanillandhoney we've only been in this house 2 weeks and I went round and cleaned them all when we moved in so I'm sure it's the outside.

I just wanted to check before I did moan. I won't mention anything to him now though as it seems my expectations were too highGrin although I will mention the one window he definitely didn't bother to clean

Surely drying them would cause them to streak more?
I’ve never heard of anyone drying the outside of their windows.

holliem91 · 21/09/2020 12:07

@missyB1 yes he does use that

I think I'm this situation of you are not happy simply find someone else. Not worth the stress and hassle of talking to them.

Bloomburger · 21/09/2020 12:24

If your window cleaner uses filtered water on the brush thingy they don't need drying, if they use ordinary tap water they do as residual stuff in the water leaves water marks.

Some window cleaners have moved to the brush thingys because it's easier and less time consuming but don't use filtered water.

Maybe worth checking.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 21/09/2020 12:48

This happened to me one time my window cleaner cleaned my windows, but it was caused by him using cold water instead of hot water I think ? X

rosiejaune · 21/09/2020 13:38

Maybe your new windows are a different type of glass that is more prone to streaking? So he may not be doing anything differently.

But yes he should have either done the difficult window, or spoken to you about it.

Felifox · 21/09/2020 14:21

The window cleaners here clean with a reusable water system, my thought was did the previous owners use a cleaner on them that could cause streaks?

holliem91 · 22/09/2020 10:18

Thank you everyone. Lots of possibilities here. For what it's worth, as a PP mentioned the windows get wet when it rains anyway. I'll just leave it. Main thing is they do look clean but they just have water marks on them but it's not too big of an issue. I'm glad I now realise that window cleaners don't often dry windows. I'll speak to him about the window he could not access but leave it at thatSmile
