To call in sick

Dishwashersaurous · 21/09/2020 08:38

I’ve been in bed all weekend with flu symptoms. I feel really ill and waiting for gp to call back.

In normal world I wouldn’t be able to get on a train and therefore couldn’t work.

However, been working from home for months and I’m incredibly busy with work, huge amounts to do today. No one else to do the work so will build up

Therefore technically I can turn on my computer and start work but I just feel so ill.

So aibu to phone in sick and go back to bed even though working from home

YANBU

I know what you mean though, I've worked days from.home.i would have phoned in sick for but if you're as ill as you say then don't feel bad about taking a day in bed

unimaginativeusernamehere · 21/09/2020 08:41

If you feel unable to work then definitely call in sick, if you rest now you might recover sooner.

middleager · 21/09/2020 08:42

YANBU calling in sick but YABU calling the GP about a cold/flu.

AlexaShutUp · 21/09/2020 08:43

YANBU. You are sick, and you will struggle to work properly. As a manager, I would not judge you for calling in sick.

I hope you feel better soon.

baytreetavern · 21/09/2020 08:43

Just go back to bed for a bit, and then try and do a little bit of work.

If you're well enough to post here you can probably write some emails

Mynameisrow · 21/09/2020 08:43

Take the day off! You need to rest and get better. You’ll only crash and burn later in the week and need a day.

Dishwashersaurous · 21/09/2020 08:45

I called the gp because pretty sure it’s spread to ear infection and need antibiotics

I have phoned in sick when working from home (before Covid).

Ah ok then. Well rest up and get better soon Flowers

if you're ill you're ill. you're entitled to be ill if you're wfh as well

YANBU. In previous Covid times, when I predominantly worked in the office, to my mind I had a scale of sickness - I.e there was somewhat unwell where I could still sit at my computer and do my job, but saying I was going to do that at home rather than get out the house, commute, etc etc (and potentially spread some low scale germs around) meant it wasn't such a struggle and I knew I would feel better more quickly by taking it that little bit easier. Then there was just full on terrible feeling like it sounds like is your case, where really you just need to be in bed, fully off sick. Don't feel guilty about it OP, and I hope you feel better soon.

I had norovirus after 3 weeks in my job wfh. I stopped vomiting at 5am but was worn out so I lay in bed with my laptop as I felt I was too new to call in. It was actually a godsend working from home as o couldn’t have travelled in. If you feel you can’t work then calm in sick.

Dishwashersaurous · 21/09/2020 09:48

Thanks all.

I’ve logged on and rearranged meetings and now feel completely destroyed so said I’m not working today

Oh op Thanks take some paracetamol and try to get some sleep.
A hot shower always makes me feel a bit better too.
I have a terribly upset stomach today (31 weeks pregnant and taking ferrous fumerate). I'm working from home but scheduled for a 2 hour call with service users at 10am.... hoping I manage it without running off to the bathroom Sad
I'm so dehydrated, really thinking I should have called in sick actually but it's too late now and I'm on A/L the rest of the week so I'll just suck it up today.

BashfulClam · 21/09/2020 10:11

Get some sleep now.
