AIBU or so certain TV shows make your kids a bit wild?

DD is nearly 4, she doesn't watch a massive amount of TV, and is usually reasonably well behaved (pushes boundaries of course, but is quite rational).

But there are two TV shows that appear to have an immediate detrimental effect on her behaviour (taking it from standard nearly 4 year old, to actively and intentionally 'naughty' behaviour).

They are Peter Rabbit (which I hate anyway), and Messy Goes to Okido.

Am I imagining it? Or do some TV shows just make them behave Iike total rotters?

I banned Bing because he is a whiney little gobshit who doesn’t speak properly. You need to watch some Sarah and Duck! So gentle, chills me right out (don’t even care if the kids are watching or not)

Hahaha88 · 21/09/2020 13:24

Yanbu and it happens because the shows you mentioned that wile her up and fast passed, loud and energetic. Things like Daniel tiger are the opposite. You want 2d shows that are marketed as being gentle. Like Daniel tiger, Ruby and max, super why isn't strictly in that category but works too. You want to be avoiding action type things like paw patrol or things with "hero's" in.

Hahaha88 · 21/09/2020 13:25

Oh yes Sarah and duck is a good call.

ShanghaiDoll · 21/09/2020 13:30

We had to ban the Little Princess after my DD copied the obnoxious I want behaviour. Took us a while to work out the link too.

MyNameForToday1980 · 21/09/2020 14:00

No heroes for DD.
No running.
No chasing.
No good vs. evil.
...and definitely no naughty children...

Poor DD, it'll be Llama Llama, Daniel Tiger and Sarah and Duck FOREVER!!!

Puffin rock is nice

Wtfdidwedo · 21/09/2020 14:26

Oh I forgot about Max and Ruby. I think it turned my daughter into a weird small 50s housewife Grin she would talk to her younger sister like she was her mother and want to do twee things with her. I don't really understand the setup of the show!

northstars · 21/09/2020 14:36

Banned Peppa here when DC started saying “YUCK!” to food I’d cooked Wink

tempnamechange98765 · 21/09/2020 14:53

Yes! And my DS (turning 5 at the end of the year) is terrible for just flicking through Netflix or Prime for something to watch. He watches all this weird shite like Sunny Bunnies, Chico Bon Bon. I should hide the remotes really!

TruffleShuffles · 21/09/2020 14:57

My daughter is a nightmare after any Peppa episode where George is being difficult and it’s ‘no’ to everything in George’s annoying way. Thankfully she doesn’t react to when Peppa is a twat as that’s pretty much every episode.

You lot can thank your lucky stars you are too young to have parented during the power rangers years! Grin

Sam and Cat and Icarly and the other spin off which I can't think of. Bloody hate them and DS is obnoxious after watching them.

And those two shouty people on YOUTUBE who do experiments whose names escape me. I get driven demented by them.

Straven123 · 21/09/2020 16:38

Simon''s quite innocuous - those calm middle class French.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 21/09/2020 16:39

Tracey Beaker back in the day. Turned dd2 into a not very nice child after watching. The rest of the time she was lovely.

The dubbing is a bit weird though, I found myself listening to it really intently to try to understand how and why the intonation ended up the way it did.

Well this is an old thread that @MissSunshine100 is clearly reviving to promote her YouTube channel.

But nonetheless, I actually banned Daniel tiger. Intensely annoying and far too saintly!

Power Rangers are completely banned in our house.
My oldest ds was so terrible afterwards that my younger son has never even had the opportunity to see it.

ChazP · 13/02/2021 08:49

Had to ban Peppa Pig in our house - particularly episodes where Peppa ans Suzy argued. My daughter turned into a right brat for the rest of the day, parroting the lines from the show.

wigornian · 13/02/2021 18:03

Horrid Henry was banned when DS was younger. When I saw the thread title HH was what came into my mind!

MasterBeth · 13/02/2021 18:28

Tracey Beaker, back in the day.

Apparently, he also watched My Mum, Tracey Beaker this week but he’s 19 now, so I am less worried.

RaidersoftheLostAardvark · 13/02/2021 19:19

As a kid I thought Peter Rabbit was a thief, and watching the modern cartoons now with my toddler he's even worse- they are all glorifying stealing from an elderly man! Admittedly one who cooked and ate Peter's father, but still, stealing radishes is wrong.
