To ask if anyone who works in a hospital knows the answer as don’t want to bother the hospital!

Unfortunately I tested positive for the virus recently and after a few difficulties had to be taken into hospital in an ambulance to be checked over. (They sent me home the next day so hopefully I am not a serious case but the dr did have a couple of question marks on the chest X-ray, so keeping everything crossed!).

The paramedics and the nurse who looked after me overnight were so fantastic, I’d really like to send some chocolates or naice biscuits to the hospital for them like I did when I had my babies, but would that be allowed now? Obviously the delivery would be direct from the supplier, not me, but I really don’t want to send something to the hospital that makes things more difficult for the staff!

Does anyone know whether this would be OK or a terrible idea?

TIA.

Hi Op, I’m a nurse. At the moment on the ward we are not allowed to share food such as a cake to cut but I think if it was from an outside supplier and individually wrapped things it would be ok.
The best gift you can give though would be nice feedback mentioning staff by name. It makes our day and is invaluable for appraisals and revalidation.
Get well soon.💐

Toddlerteaplease · 20/09/2020 13:12

We are still accepting gifts from patients! I popped in the other day and all my colleagues were complaining that there had been no goodies for two whole days! Hell will freeze iced before we go without junk food.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/09/2020 13:12

All the wards were all bought a huge cake by management, for getting an accreditation!

Hospitalquestionplease · 20/09/2020 13:19

Thanks both, that’s great! I will order individually wrapped chocolates and also email the hospital to give feedback with their names then.

Wishing you both many treats too!

If possible please email the ceo to make sure the message gets passed down

Frazzled2207 · 20/09/2020 13:25

No idea about treats but I think an email to the ceo Of the hospital trust and ambulance trust (they will be separate), ideally naming names, is a fantastic idea.

Hospitalquestionplease · 20/09/2020 13:49

I only have the name of the nurse unfortunately, I wasn’t all that with it in the ambulance, but I can say when the shift was and give a description and that might help! Thanks, I don’t work in a medical field at all, so this is all new to me.

In the hospitals I work in, gifts for staff are not an infection risk, however gifts for patients are

Cornettoninja · 20/09/2020 13:59

My hospital had an Amazon wish list for staff to add to during lockdown so I would think it’s fine to send in something individually wrapped for the staff to share.

IME anything sweet goes down well with NHS teams!

DaveMinion · 20/09/2020 15:02

We are still allowed to share food in theatres in our hospital. But we are the forgotten department (we get stuff from local restaurants and places though which is nice).

Hospitalquestionplease · 20/09/2020 15:06

I have found the directors of the trust and emailed the address given to contact them.

Now to order some sweets :)

It's a lovely idea. I had a patient bring in a pan of homemade brownies last week. Gone within hours!

Toddlerteaplease · 20/09/2020 19:19

@MissConductUS they lasted As long as an hour?!

Hospitalquestionplease · 20/09/2020 19:21

I found a seriously huge box of Celebrations on Amazon (for Halloween!), so it should be big enough to ensure everyone on the ward should have treats for a few days. Thanks again all, hopefully I won’t need to go back to the ward and see them being eaten!

Is there an employee of the month scheme? I recently nominated a HCP who was wonderful with my baby, it was on the trust's website in the feedback section.
@MissConductUS they lasted As long as an hour?!
They might have been gone in under an hour. I put them in the break room and they had vaporized when I looked back a couple of hours later.

Glad you had a good experience! I work for an ambulance service and the feedback (and chocs) go a long way! If you wanted to look at the website for your ambulance trust and they'll have a feedback/experience form or email to use.

They can trace the crew from your details and feedback is eventually passed on. It's always lovely when you get good feedback.

TitianaTitsling · 20/09/2020 21:30

Also op please go on careopinion.org and you can leave feedback for the precise staff as it has drop down menus to select nhs trust then hospital/speciality. Its heartening to hear some positive stuff especially these days!

Darkstar4855 · 20/09/2020 21:55

Please don’t forget the ambulance crew! Just a thank you letter to the ambulance service with the date and time you saw them would go a long way.
