To wonder why people use the term darling/dear husband when they obviously aren't dear at all?

Do people think the D in DH stands for DickHead?

If not why in the last few threads Ive read are husbands who are acting so awfully termed darling or dear?

"My "DH" has dropped a brick on my foot/lied to me about there not being the food I asked for/continues to speak to me like shite/threatening to cut off my electricity" yet still called DH/P

Why? AIBU to think it is a bit odd?

I think a lot of people use it ironically! Or just because it’s the ‘house style’ of MN to use the D acronyms

Well - the D doesn’t have to stand for dear or darling - it could be dopey or dimwit, or, in the context of the things you mention it could stand for damned or dastardly.

They're just using a stand in for the word husband without giving much thought to what the letters technically stand for. I would imagine they are thinking the word "husband" on its own as they write "DH" - that's how I read posts. It's not that confusing?

Now I will be reading "my dcs" as "my dopey children" Grin

No, I feel a stand MUST be taken!! D has always stood for dear/darling, that is the foundation of Mumsnet acronyms surely!

Even better when it’s exdh or exdp. That infuriates me. I hate the ‘d’ at the best of times so I find those examples pathetic.

Squoozie · 19/09/2020 20:49

It's just standard forum convention, used in many other forums 🤷🏻‍♀️

Let’s add ddog and dcat. More bloody letters than without the d.
