To hate what smart watches are doing

I can’t stand bloody smart watches becoming more and more popular. I have two close friends who wear them every day and meeting up and having a coffee / chat is becoming less and less fun (they are different friend circles so we would meet 1-2-1. They are so digitally distracted. Constantly glancing down at their watch because they feel the vibration. Getting distracted from the conversation with every single text and WhatsApp message feeling the alert on their wrist. I keep wondering why one friend keeps checking the time and then I remember - oh it’s a smart watch.
At least with a phone it can be put in a bag (which my friend does with her phone) and checked later but with something on your wrist it’s just so bloody annoying.
I can imagine doing the same myself- feeling the buzz and oh if I look at my wrist I can see what that was. For this reason I won’t get one.
Does anyone else get annoyed by these?

YANBU! Sounds like a bloody pain in the arse! People will be marrying these things next as there will be no humans left to interact with. People have gotten really bloody boring since all this tech and social media.

This, and people have also become rude as well as boring.

I just find it amazing how many couples seem to spend their time in restaurants and pubs just staring and typing on their phones instead of talking to each other. I live in a very touristy city and find it fascinating just passing the outside tables and seeing couples or even whole families just glued to technology.

I now get my phone out and leave it on the table even when socialising! Only if my DC are at school or being looked after by someone other than their dad. As I have missed a ‘DS has a head injury‘ call from school as i was in the pub with work colleagues one lunchtime.
Although as it’s usually on silent because of being in an open plan office, i have missed several calls from school. Makes you paranoid!

I don't use my smartwatch for calls or texts, it's mainly for the health functions, it monitors my sleep, heartbeat, stress levels & steps. I'm disabled & keeping records for evidence for disability benefits purpose.

I put mine on sleep mode when I’m busy. They choose not to.

I actually find it means I look at my phone less when I’m out. I can easily see if it’s someone important calling me (school, nursery etc) and if not I’ll just not answer it, and it’s not as intrusive as having your phone ringing. I do ignore texts though when I’m busy. I also love it for the recording your workout function.

I was very sceptical at first as DH had one long before I did, but now I have one I love it
