In the last couple of days alone, I have come across threads where people have fabricated entire scenarios. I am truly baffled by this, why do people do it?

There was the girl pretending to be a grandma, usually random ones about partners cheating, being the OW etc etc. Eventually they all get caught out and the posts get deleted, but why do it in the first place? Life must be reallt dull to make up a story for mumsnet lol.

@Fantabulous1 I was gonna say the woman who was pregnant yet everything pointed to no she's not - I take it she definitely wasn't then!
I actually quite reading them, I get too over invested and would like to know the outcome - even if they are made up. Tbh i get over invested in quite a lot and it's frustrating when an OP doesn't come back to update.
I mean if it's real then i don't want them to sitcom their woes, but i feel every thread should have an outcome. Maybe a "thanks for the advice, All is well" or a "CF does not park in my space anymore - Cheers" Grin

Maybe there are people that are doing the cheating so they make up that someone else is doing it to see what the reaction is like? Boredom as well perhaps and just plain goady behaviour too!

Sometimes I change some of the details of a story to avoid being recognised in real life. I'll keep the important part the same, but other details will change.

I remember getting into a mess one time because I didn't think through one of the changed details and people spotted that the story didn't add up!

I know someone who does the same on Facebook. Literally 80% of what she posts is made up...its like she's living some fantasy life! I think she does it for attention as I've noticed the stories that don't get many likes or comments don't gain much traction.

@Fantabulous1 surely everyone has feral kids? I know I bloody do. No point in this particular person pretending they’re perfect, giving advice to other parents about how strictly enforced rules mean her kids have learnt to be polite and compliant. They couldn’t actually get any more violent and rude. 🤣 It’s a complete fantasy.
