Posting here for traffic. DS 10 rarely gets ill tbh. But when he does really does get ill and needs a week off school to recover.

He's had a very heavy cold for the last week and still not much better. Still very snotty and congested.

Obviously we've had lockdown but generally he probably hadn't been ill for a year or so!

Dd also caught his cold but recovered within 3 days.

Anyone else's children the same?? Is this normal?? A cold to last for a full week??

When he has a sickness bug it usually makes him poorly for a week. Rather than being sick a few times then getting over it he's sick randomly over the space of a week.

Generally his school attendance is good but when he does get ill he needs the full week off and I worry he's missing so much!! 😭

DS is almost 16 and is exactly the same. I dread him being ill as I know it'll mean a week at home. Luckily it's rare for him to be ill but he never has mild illnesses, always ones that knock him out completely.

No DC here but my DM says exactly the same about me as a child, if I was going to be ill, it was always REALLY ill, usually an awful bug and I'd be off for days. Otherwise, practically perfect attendance.

I was the same when I was younger and it's looking like DD will be similar, rarely ill but when she is its awful. DP and SD on the other hand always seem to be a bit sniffly, tummy ache, something not quite right. None of us ever seem to be Ill at the same time either, so we dont ever seem to pass illness between us either

Not my kids but me. One horrendous cold a year, that really knocks me about, sends me to bed, infects my sinuses, then goes to my chest and I cough for a fortnight. But the rest of the year: nothing.

I've not had a stomach bug for years and years, but last time I did, I was laid out for a week.

I have an adult friend who’s like this, rarely ill but when she is she’s really unwell and will get an infection off the back of a cold/flu type virus

DD1's hardly been ill. Last time was 11 years ago now, when she had bad pneumonia. She was on 3 types of antibiotics daily and was weak for about 18 months.
Dd2 is a bit of a drama queen and suffers from migraines. She typically is minorly ill with a lot of fuss.
Ds gets a lot of ear infections. He'll have a fever, but not be really ill with it, just uncomfortable. However if he gets tonsilitis (about every other year) he can't even stand up he's so ill, he'll just lie in bed for around 48 hours, and hasn't got the energy to sit up or do anything.

Halfpastafreckle · 18/09/2020 11:23

Yes both of mine are like this - never mild sniffles or bugs. If they are going to be ill it is full on fever, halluctinations, antibiotics or the exorcist vomiting 🤮

NellePorter · 18/09/2020 22:49

Mine are the same. They don't get stomach bugs (touch wood), but if they get colds they're not just a bit snuffly, they're really ill with it. Have had comments from school office about having time off for just a cold.

Foxes157 · 18/09/2020 23:12

All my dc, they never get mildly ill, they always get a trip to hospital with breathing problems or a broken bone.

Bupkis · 18/09/2020 23:14

Ds gets really really ill...really really often.

FallonsTeaRoom · 19/09/2020 00:16

My DD if she was ill she looked like she’d just been exhumed! I could always see her illness.

She never could fake ”ill” for school Grin
