To wonder where we go from the ‘rule of 6’

So, you can go to

  • school
  • work
  • football match
  • grouse shoot
  • multiple family gatherings of 6 or less all day long as long as they don’t overlap

Is anyone else thinking this is an utterly ridiculous and unsustainable situation?

If it wasn’t for the media, would we even know CV19 still existed?

I've just seen this shared online

Yeah the grouse shooting was one of those rather tone deaf errors I fear

Where do we go? Further into the slogan-led dystopian mismanaged future that is the vision of Dominic Cummings and his chief aide Boris Johnson. That's where.

Public events, organised events, places and services have introduced Covid safety measures. Private homes and social occasions tend not to follow covid safety measures and even if they did, it cannot be verified. Hence different rules.

I certainly hope it doesn’t go on, but numbers are rising again at a worrying rate and we need to try and stop it.

What's being missed out is that, for non-professionals, those bubbles of six still apply to all of the permitted activities and the organiser is responsible for ensuring social distancing takes place and that the bubbles do not mingle.

It's also being missed that people have been directly asked not to meet multiple groups in short duration and to think before meeting at all.

I'm no fan of the government, the current management is pathetic, and my own hobbies and activities are being completely screwed over by all this, but a large chunk of the issue seems to be that people are far too quick to look at what they could do and go 'haha! But this!'

The intent is clear - no more than 6 in a group, with distancing between different households. It's there to allow some social contact, not to be a free for all. It's obvious that we're not supposed to meet 4 different groups in the same day - it actively says, 'please don't.'

If people don't listen, and keep mixing with multiple different groups 'cause I can', then I hope no-one will be surprised when the next step is back to no contact at all.

Why just pick up on the grouse shooting? Ultimate frisbee does not seem essential to me!

This means that there is a broad list of organised sport, fitness activity or licensed outdoor physical activity that you can safely and lawfully do in groups of more than six. This includes, but is not limited to:

@ginnybag 100% absolutely agree. People ask for rules (rules which are impossible write and police) and then behave like children ‘testing’ them. People seem to think that if there’s a ‘chink’ in a rule then that absolves them of all responsibility. It’s terrifying.
