Anybody have experience applying for teaching job?

Just wondering... if a school has 2 jobs advertised on seperate posts such as

"Reception Teacher"
And
"Year 4 Teacher"

Do I write a different personal statement?

Probably sounds stupid but last week I applied for the Reception job and yesterday the Year 4 job came up.

I am Early Years trained but I have done supply in KS2 so would like to apply for this class also.
In my personal statement for reception, I spoke about Early Years, play etc.
So is it going to seem off if I write another personal statement but change it to suit KS2?

I would ring up and let them know you are also interested in the Y4 job and ask if you need to do a separate application.

Could you contact the school and explain that you would like to express your interest in the other job aswell and list your experience, to save them reading through two almost identical applications? Ask if it's a requirement that you formally apply, in which case you'd be happy to do so.
I've only worked in very small schools where the hiring process was probably less formal than in a large school with great numbers of applicants so you may have to apply for both jobs but it wouldn't hurt to find out.

I’m a teacher, secondary though.

I would expect an application for each role as the expectations and requirements for each will be different.

Very different role teaching reception as opposed to Y4, different experiences would be used in different ways to meet the demands of the job

I would write a covering letter, detailing amendments to your personal statement which meet the criteria of the Yr 4 position.

I would love to write a cover letter but my local council do the teaching applications near me and it is all an online form with a box to put your supporting statement in within the form,
So I'd need to login to my council profile and it'd have all my details saved apart from the supporting statement part

Yes. In our place is your cover letter/supporting statement that gets you an interview. It's the only way to really distinguish between people who have similar amounts of experience.
Obviously a Y4 job is totally different to Rec and that should be reflected in your letter/covering statement

@The6thQueen

You are correct, very different job teaching reception vs year 4.

Yet the schools still happily move the teachers around the year groups as if its all the same.

I’d do a new personal statement, similar to the previous one but more related to the year 4 job.
The shortlisting panel may have a slightly different make up for each key stage anyway and I’m sure you will want to stress different things.
When I sat on shortlisting panels we found application letters that followed a similar order to the specific person spec. and the job that description and gave examples (Sentence or two on each point - remember to PEE as they say) were the most impressive and usually got put to the top of the pile.
I’d also check out the advice on the TES site on applications. It’s really helpful.

So do I write my statement from scratch or just change certain points?
Thanks for the tips everyone
