That the interview didn't match the job advertised?

Like a lot of people in the current climate, I am applying for kots of jobs.

I applied for a job at the local supermarket which advertised permanent 12 hr contracts.

I went to the interview and the woman said it was 4 hour contracts and temporary as to when and how much they need me.

I pulled out of the interview as that's now what I applied for so didn't want to waste any more time.

But why would that have even happened? Surely they wouldve put temporary 4 hr contracts on the job advert?

I had to fill out one of those annoying "quizzes" about how I would react and rate my personality for the application so seems a waste of time

Btw i'm also on temp agency work which i get a bit of money off so not desperate for a 4 hr contract

Also i know the hours could have been more but i still think it's wrong to put 12 when it was actually 4

I used to do maternity cover PA jobs thru an agency (better £ than permanent PA). The interviews were never ,ever accurate re what the job really involved. I don't know if it was the people you'd be working under or HR not getting it , or both,but there should be ,legally, a defined & detailed job spec with duties, hours etc. Back in the day there used to be a very devious "and any other duties required" in most job contracts which employers used to ruthlessly exploit employees. I hope it's no longer legal. A friend in supermarket retail management left precisely because of this.

I find this frustrating too - but I don't think you can really know what the job is until you are there in many places. I applied for (and got) a job on the management side of software, at the moment I'm doing more data analytics. It's fine for me as it's contract and I like both - but it's nothing like they said they needed!

Very common in retail now to get a contract that's effectively a mixture of short fixed hours and zero as and when hours.

It sucks!

I once applied for a copywriting job just out of uni and it took the interviewer and myself 20 minutes to work out HR had processed my application for the wrong job (big magazine company) - I was gamely trying to answer questions about yachts and selling ad space in increasing confusion!
