Cough after eating...

I'm not sure if I'm just over thinking this or if this is normal...

After eating I get a lot of phlegm in my chest and a cough. I've had this for about a year or two now. I'd go to the doctor but I'm afraid of sounding stupid.Grin

Just wondering if others get this and if it's normal or if I should be worried?

It can be normal it can be a type of acid reflux or indigestion sometimes it's GERD but any unusual cough should go to the Gp.

i have this, you need some omeoprazole or lanzoprozole.

You need to go to your doctors to get on a course to see if it helps but you really need to be checked out, your doctors definitely not think you are silly as this is how mine started and got progressively worse as i thought like you and did nothing about it.

Reflux. Do u get like a yucky feeling in back of throat?

TheDuchessofMalfy · 16/09/2020 14:48

Yeah I’d also say GERD / acid reflux.

I get a GERD cough quite often even though I’m on omeprazole and it worries me that people with think it’s a COVID cough!

It's probably heartburn but it is still worth discussing with a GP. Try antacids (e.g. Gaviscon) straight after each meal to see if that helps.

Echo what others have said - GP and likely reflux. There are two main types. I also get this and my usual trigger is after a viral infection. You could reduce acid forming foods in your diet which can help but will probably need medication in the short to medium term.

I get this, it’s reflux, my cough feels ‘watery’. Do you get sore throats too? I’m on medication to help.

Yes sounds like reflux, either GERD or LPR. As minor as it sounds you shouldn't leave it untreated because it can develop into Barrett's Esophagus which can then lead to esophageal cancer. Get it checked out by your doctor.
