WIBU to shower after swimming?

The showers are open. The pool is limited numbers and the showers are too. They are closing cubicles and only every other one is open.

I'm taking dc1 swimming tomorrow and I want us to shower and wash hair after, like we normally do, or did pre-covid. It's a naice gym and swimming pool place btw, and never that busy. No we wouldn't wash our hair if there was a big queue for showers, before anyone jumps up and down about that.

Anyway, my dad (doctor) says all his colleagues are choosing not to shower after their gym and swim, (in another location), due to covid. I read in Metro or somewhere that you actually should be showering.

I'm confused! Would you? Do you? I'm tempted to, even if it's just when I go with dc tbh, as then we can walk home instead of bundling out to the car covered in chlorine.

YABU = don't shower after swimming
YANBU = shower after swimming

Yes, the showers are open. They are cubicles. They are being cleaned regularly and being used by every woman I saw in there. I didn't see anyone, except me, go straight from the pool into their clothes and out the door.

I don't think it's disgusting to drive home having not showered. I've been in the pool water for an hour, having a few drops left on me (I do towel dry myself, otherwise I'd not be able to get my clothes back on) for a few minutes isn't really going to make any difference.

However, I do wonder how this is all going to work in the winter. It will be freezing walking out from the pool to the car :( And if you cycle or get a bus, brrrrrr.

I shower after swimming or exercising at my gym, wash my hair etc
as do my friends who then use the hairdryers and put on their make up
and then they go up and have a coffee with their friends in the bar

our area has the lowest rates in the country

At the DCs' lessons, the showers are off and the communal ones are used as a waiting area for one of the pools.

DS2 swims at 4
Swim, change, loiter outside until we go in ready for DS1's lesson for 5:30
Swim change leave (now 6:15)
Buy chips, eat
Showering gone 7:45pm. D2 terrified of hairdryer so ends up going to bed with danp hair.

I'm more concerned about the DCs developing hypothermia than Covid!

If showers were avaliable, I'd use them.

God yes, the cold is going to be rubbish in the winter!

I don't think you or anyone else is disgusting for not showering. There was another pp on here who said they found pool showers disgusting (Dad? Wink). I do not. Everyone's got their thing!

Surely you can have a more better shower at home without the chlorine cosy on? You can strip off properly and wash that digusting chlorine off Grin

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 17/09/2020 10:00

When our pool showers are open, they have cubicles so you can take your swimsuit off.

I do miss my pool shower - they are better than the one I have at home and it gets the whole exercise session done and dusted.

What about all the people open water swimming. Do you think they're disgusting for not being able to shower before they get home?

CMOTDibbler · 17/09/2020 10:46

I swim in the lake, and now its a bit cooler, marinate in that for at least an hour afterwards (its important not to shower until you have rewarmed) - and thats sharing with trout, ducks, geese, an otter and about 100 people a day in there. Nothing has fallen off me yet!

garlictwist · 17/09/2020 10:49

My pool has reopened but you have to book (fine, I guess) but are not allowed to shower after or dry your hair. So I have suspended my membership. I don't want the faff of cycling home in the cold with wet hair just to have to shower when I get back. I really miss swimming but this is more hassle than it's worth.

They're cubicles, so I do strip off!

I have said twice now that I DO NOT, REPEAT DO NOT FIND ANYONE ELSE DISGUSTING FOR NOT SHOWERING AFTER SWIMMING. Caps and bold there, so you can't miss it Grin.

I don't think anything will fall off me either...it just gives me the ick. The stuff that's in there from other swimmers, plus the chlorine, which is pretty nasty stuff when you think about it, sitting on my skin while I get home. Bleurgh. Not my thing thanks, at all. I like all my swimming poolly, chloriney items, well wrapped up in a wet bag, which I can throw into the wash when I get home. You don't have to agree with me, but you also can't make me agree with you 🤷‍♀️. Personal taste yada yada.

@garlictwist, these are exactly my feelings. I love swimming, but I hate going home without a shower more. If they take the showers away, I'll not use the pool anymore.

The pool and showers in my gym have been open since July and I've been showering after a swim. I don't shower after a gym class as I find it easier to go home and shower but I don't see why you wouldn't shower after swimming. Just keep your distance from others in the changing rooms and sanitise your hands.
