To be miffed a company did not print my review

I will start by saying that I have too much time on my hands. I'm on mat leave with a 3 month old baby that sleeps a lot.

I have a bee in my bonnet over a company that hasn't printed my review. I bought 2 face masks that I saw advertised on Facebook. They had rave reviews, they were the most comfortable facemasks ever! So breathable! 5 stars! I paid around £16 altogether for 2 masks. I received and thought they were ok, but not brilliant. Noticed that the fabric plucked really easily but thought no more about it.

A week or so later I had an email asking me to review the mask. As already stated I have too much time on my hands so I sent them a 3 star review mentioning that the fabric plucked easily. I kept seeing the masks advertised on Facebook and wanting my moment of glory I went to see my review in print but was dismayed to find it not there! A few more 5 star reviews but not my 3 star review.

I emailed them to ask if they were only printing 5 star reviews and they basically said yes! Telling me that the negative reviews must be because the customer received a faulty product so it doesn't make sense to post them. I replied saying my mask wasn't faulty it is made of fabric that plucks easily. They've now refunded me to shut me up.

I'm naively shocked that a company would sensor their reviews. I usually rely on them to narrow down my online purchases.

For me that’s a snag.

DollyDoneMore · 15/09/2020 21:55

I was going to say you sound naive, but that is definitely me being polite.

LionessRoar · 15/09/2020 22:00

Just popped on to say I’m amazed so many people didn’t know the word plucked in this context. I guess it must be a regional thing. Learn something new every day!

VanillaSpiceCandle · 15/09/2020 22:34

Pluck might be regional but it’s not commonly understood. YABU for even thinking a company would choose to use a less than stellar review - they want to sell more, not less. Do you seriously not know why?

Cryalot2 · 15/09/2020 22:48

A snag or pull.
Did you read the lable first , some fabrics are prone to this . You probably did given your experience.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. But you could always post that photo if you like .

TheLette · 15/09/2020 23:06

You could report this company to the regulator ... www.gov.uk/cma-cases/online-reviews

Probably won't result in your review getting published though!

cakewench · 15/09/2020 23:10

Really glad I wasn’t the only one who didn’t understand what was happening with the fabric!

Sorry OP, at least they’ve refunded you?

Roundandballlike · 15/09/2020 23:11

Well I won't go any further with it, of course, it was a mild irritation. I now know not all reviews are like Amazon. I feel a bit silly when I think about it but at least I learnt my lesson! Thanks all.

I get your irritation OP. I bought a hose on amazon that had only 5 star reviews, it was good but shorter than they said it would be so I gave it a three star review, they contacted me and said they would refund me if I changed my review to 5 stars! I was so outraged at the way they cheated the review system I said no thank you and left my honest review up. Petty but satisfying. (I also had too much time on my hands!)

LadyEloise I was interested to see your comment on Trust Pilot as just recently I’ve have a good impression of the site. DP left some feedback on a local company and Trust Pilot phoned him a few days later to. Heck the review was genuine. Yesterday I posted a 1 star review for a well known bathroom supply company. Amazingly, the company contacted me today to discuss my feedback and apologise. They also offered some monetary compensation to offset the issue I’d raised. I was initially suspicious as I expected the compensation payment to be dependent on me agreeing to remove my review, but this wasn’t the case. I’d not got anywhere trying to deal directly with the company but the review on Trust Pilot certainly got a good result for me. It’s good to see some Companies read the reviews and act accordingly.

awsomer · 16/09/2020 07:33

@reader12 you should edit your review to say that.

K4fkaesque · 16/09/2020 11:04

My review would read:

"I cannot believe the mother-plucking material on this mother-plucking mask"

Probably wouldn't be printed either.
