Should I just leave it?

The house a few doors down have caused a few issues for us since we've lived here. Thank god we are moving on friday!

We've paid for the council to come and take some rubbish away for us, a couple of bags but mostly old furniture. The council charge depending on how much you are throwing away.

We've left it by our back gate, it's quite heavy some of it. Yesterday DH was off work so we could move it together.

This morning I see they've added loads of their own shit to our pile. They've always fly tipped out the back gate and just left it there. Old toys, fridges, random bags of crap. But are they now expecting us to pay for their fly tipping? The council will now try to charge us more as theres way more there than we said there would be and half of it isn't ours.

I don't really know what to do. They are always shouting at each other and swearing and shouting and swearing at their children. They seem like people that once confronted, they wouldn't be particularly nice about it so I'd rather just leave it. But Im not paying extra for their laziness.

Any ideas mumsnet? What would you all do?

This is very simple! Separate your rubbish and only pay for yours to be removed , you are moving on a couple of days! Report them to the council for fly tipping too.

Fallsballs · 15/09/2020 07:34

Pull your big girl pants up and move it to their gate.

DDiva · 15/09/2020 07:58

Yep just move it yo outside their gate.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/09/2020 08:01

Why ask? Move it back to their gate!

MaggieFS · 15/09/2020 08:05

If you're sure it's their rubbish, separate it, and report it. I wouldn't move it though.

RibenaMonsoon · 15/09/2020 08:05

Yes I think that's probably the best thing to do. The council are coming for it today.
They are quite entitled, I'm hoping they don't try and confront us about it before Friday. Because they absolutely would.

I think that's what's scaring me, they are quite intimidating. Was hoping for an alternative mystical magical solution. Time to test drive these big girl pants I guess.

Just ring the council.
Can you be there when they come to collect? That way you can say these are ours and the rest is fly tipped from no. 7?

You're moving Friday. You don't need to do anything. Just report it as abandoned.

Do you have proof it was them? If so inform the council's fly-tipping team.

If you can't prove it's them, it really depends on whether it's dumped on your land or on public property. If it's on public land, again, inform the council and ask them to remove it. Make sure that someone is there when the council come to collect your legitimate rubbish so that you can confirm what is yours and what isn't.

If you can't prove it's them, and it's on your land, unfortunately it becomes your responsibility. Presumably you are either selling or renting. If selling it will almost certainly be a breach of contract if you leave rubbish there, and if renting the cost of removal will be deducted from your deposit. In either case it may be easier to just let the council take it away and stump up the money, no matter how unjust that is.

Spied · 15/09/2020 08:14

Don't most council's ask what it is you are leaving out and move the items that you've specified only? I'm sure you have to describe the items say, 1 chair and 2 large sacks, for example so they know how much to charge you.
They won't take the rest of the crap and you won't be charged.
I'd probably call, however, to tell them that some of it is nothing to do with you- just so they are sure- but don't think they'd have took stuff that you hadn't told them about anyway.

Seperate the rubbish, and then wait until you're just about to leave your old place and joyfully toss it over their fence.

Then go.
