That you could put it in the dishwasher and it would be fine or not?

YANBU = yeah stick it in the dishwasher, it’s fine.
YABU = no. Wash that by hand.

It depends how much you like it tbh. I have a fancy roasting tin which can go in the dishwasher, but they don't recommend it. So, mostly, I hand wash it, but occasionally I put it in the dishwasher.

You can put it in the dishwasher but it might not stay in perfect condition for as long if you do. If it were something pretty expensive I'd probably wash it by hand. If not I'd put it in the dishwasher.

Shoppingwithmother · 14/09/2020 20:36

Well obviously it MEANS that it is safe to go in the dishwasher.
Whether or not you decide to put it in is another matter.

AryaStarkWolf · 14/09/2020 20:36

I'd probably put it in the dishwasher out of laziness but it will probably last longer if you don't

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/09/2020 20:36

If it’s pricey, hand wash it.

TorgosPizza · 14/09/2020 20:41

Same as the others have said. It lasts longer if you wash by hand.

What it also means to me, however, is that they were sneaky to boldly advertise it as dishwasher safe and then backpedal in the small print. That always annoys me.

BertieBotts · 14/09/2020 20:49

I would dishwash it. If it isn't dishwasher safe it's not worth space in my house. I loathe hand washing.

DebbieFiderer · 14/09/2020 20:54

I have those pans and I am not putting them in the dishwasher as I want to make sure they last a long time (especially given the price!). They would probably be OK in the dishwasher but might lose their non-stick coating sooner

That’s what pissed me off. You can’t read the small print until after you have bought it, assuming it to be fine to use in the dishwasher. If it isn’t dishwasher safe then don’t say it is on the front.

I bought a Le Creuset Toughened Non-Stick pot on the basis that it was 'dishwasher safe' but the label inside pretty says the same as yours. Pissed me off.

It reads like, "well you CAN put it in the dishwasher but you shouldn't. Tut tut"

Changeissometimesgood · 14/09/2020 21:07

If you put it in the dishwasher only put it in the top drawer. This is what I was told by Tefal after absolutely ruining pans I always put in the bottom. They also mentioned what type of detergent/tablet I should use but I was too annoyed to listen.

malmi · 14/09/2020 21:10

It's dishwasher safe but the non stick coating won't last forever. This is always the case with non stick stuff. Other things too.

Knives are dishwasher safe, but stay sharper longer if you do them by hand.

Painted crockery will fade more quickly if washed in a dishwasher rather than done by hand.

Dishwashers are quite harsh. Specifically the tablets/powder are. They have to be, to remove food without any physical scrubbing/friction.

Meg631 · 14/09/2020 21:12

I have that pan, after about 3 years it lost it’s non stick coating, we did put it in the dishwasher occasionally. Regret! It was expensive!

AdaColeman · 14/09/2020 21:18

I’d probably put it in the dishwasher occasionally, say once in four or five uses, and then only on the top shelf.
I hate things that can’t go in the dishwasher!

tywysoges · 14/09/2020 21:27

I have those too and mine go in the dishwasher. We bought them (mine is a set of 3) because it said dishwasher safe on the box. They are 2 years old and they fine for now, fingers crossed they last longer than 3 years!

Kaiserin · 14/09/2020 21:33

In my house it's survival of the fittest, so in the dishwasher it goes. And if it doesn't survive, tough. Life's too short to hand wash pans after every meal.

I'm actually looking for non-non-stick pans nowadays, as I can't stand the faff around non-stick ones (can't use that spoon, can't dishwash, can't scrub...)

Shoppingwithmother · 14/09/2020 21:49

Sorry - I didn’t read the small print before I replied.....just goes to show!

I’ve got John Lewis stainless steel pans. They get used every day and look like new.
