To wonder whether I've caught this shit thing twice?

I've had it (confirmed by test) a couple of months ago and recovered. At no point did I have a cough or bad chest, oddly enough. My main symptom was a lack of taste.

Now me and my small children have an awful chesty, hacking, continuous cough.

My chest is burning as is my throat. I can't speak for my son as he's non verbal but he's so miserable with it.

Granted we do have runny noses aswell.

How likely would it be, do you think, that I would get it again so soon?

Try as I might I cannot access a test, we're isolating anyway.

YABU - very unlikely, It's just a cough and cold

YANBU - it's quite possibly that again.

It is possible to get again but these incidences appear to be extremely rare and of those that do get it again, they tend to be asymptomatic the second time.

This is just from what I have read but it’s believable given the evidence that has also been presented re immunity.

I’m not an expert though so maybe report your symptoms on the ZOE app and see what they say.

Any other symptoms other than what you describe?

There's other bugs! But get tested, apparently calling is sometimes more fruitful

Lightning22 · 14/09/2020 18:23

Only other symptom has been feeling like absolute crap for the week leading up to now, in a very nondescript way.

That started last Saturday. Nothing in particular that stood out to me, just feeling really ran down and rubbish.

I felt ok by Friday, then Saturday this cough / burning chest / snotty but blocked nose began.

I've tried to phone in on 119 but can't have a test sent out. There are no testing centres anywhere near me and I don't drive Sad

Are the children at school? You might be able to access a test through them if you tell them you cannot get even a postal one.

Lightning22 · 14/09/2020 18:28

Not school but nursery, I will have a word that's a good idea thank you

Had the same as you last week. Burning throat, no energy and a horrible productive cough. Feel it’s a bug.

Got sent home from work on Wednesday as I coughed a few times and told I need a covid test and self isolate. Finally managed to get one on Thursday, got results back on Saturday as negative. Cough worse and chest tight.

Pre-covid I would say chest infection. Been told to work at home as still coughing as they don’t trust the test. Keep saying I will make people uncomfortable due to coughing as tests can be unreliable.i might have Covid.

Ridiculous as we need to trust the test. I work in nhs and been so careful throughout. Ironically I just joined a national trial where I get a test every 2 weeks. Been told to cone back when my second test is negative.

Bassarid · 14/09/2020 22:06

I have heard several stories of people getting infected for a second time, including one from a medic, so I think it does happen.

I have actually been wondering whether some of the people who have been infected recently may have had it before. So have been infected again because of the same risk factors that caused the first infection, but are now at lower risk of developing serious illness. That might explain in part why infection rates are going up, but not hospitalisation.

laurenlodge · 14/09/2020 22:13

I thought the cough symptom for COVID was a dry cough, not a chesty one?

The3Ls · 14/09/2020 22:18

Normal chest infection but you are weak from covid so feel worse? Either way sounds nasty so stay home hunker down and get well soon x

RoseTintedAtuin · 14/09/2020 22:30

There are a couple of different strains knocking about... it would be very poor luck but very possible.

Cockadoodledooo · 14/09/2020 22:32

Covid cough is dry not chesty, but could be pleurisy/pneumonia which is post viral. Speak to your GP .

Northernsoullover · 14/09/2020 22:32

@laurenlodge its just a cough. Wet or dry.

Lightning22 · 15/09/2020 08:18

Still no luck getting a test Sad

I'm half suspecting flu. I haven't had the jab this year (I did last year as compromised immune system)

My throat feels restricted and I sound bizarre when I talk, husky and breathless (even though I can breath) and my glands under my chin are huge.

I had a sneezing fit that lasted 20 minutes last night so probably not covid?

Horrible whatever it is and I'll be doing the 14 day self quarantine regardless as the cough is quite bad.

I'll give my GP a call and see if I can get a telephone consultation today. I don't expect they'll be able to do much for me but maybe offer peace of mind that it's unlikely to be covid. Fingers crossed.
