To send her to school?

Rosebel · 14/09/2020 16:07

For a week my daughter has complained of a sore throat and headache. I have sent her to school as no temperature or cough, although I did cheek with them first. Today she didn't eat her lunch as her throat hurt so much. Still no cough although she is horse and her temperature is normal. Normally as she does seem quite bad I'd keep her off but obviously she's just had 6 months off and I don't think these are symptoms of Covid.
Send her to school or keep her home?

Why would you send her to school when she's that ill? Corona or not, it's unfair for her to have to go to school when she sounds like she should be resting.

OverTheRainbow88 · 14/09/2020 16:42

Can you shine a torch down her throat and check she hasn’t got white spots on her tonsils? Could be tonsillitis and may need antibiotics

ThatBitch · 14/09/2020 16:44

If she's not eating and generally that unwell I wouldn't send her, COVID or not.

Greysparkles · 14/09/2020 16:44

Normally as she does seem quite bad I'd keep her off

Don't be a dick, you've said it yourself she's ill enough to be off school. So keep her of school!

Lolwhat · 14/09/2020 16:46

Just because it’s not covid doesn’t mean you should be sending her in spreading other germs about, she’s clearly too poorly for school

StarchyStanley · 14/09/2020 16:47

Agree with pps; if she's too sick to be at school, keep her off. Doesn't matter if she has covid or not, (except if she develops any of the symptoms and you need to have her tested).

Porcupineinwaiting · 14/09/2020 16:47

She's poorly. Let her rest at home fgs and check her tonsils. It doesnt have to be COVID to stay off school.

Emma1962 · 14/09/2020 16:49

I’d get her checked for tonsillitis. My daughter had a sore throat for about a week but didn’t seem poorly enough to stay off school & never complained was just a bit more tired. Turned out to be tonsillitis. I felt terrible.

Morgan12 · 14/09/2020 16:50

Ffs. Shes not well. Why is she at school?

ittakes2 · 14/09/2020 16:50

Have you looked in her throat to see how swollen her tonsils are? If she has been sick a week and is now not eating you should really speak to a doctor.

Rosebel · 14/09/2020 16:58

The reason I sent her in was that she wasn't too bad last week and she was eating at the weekend so I didn't know she was that ill.
I'm going to try and get a doctors appointment tomorrow just incase it's tonsillitis.
I probably sound horrible but she's in an important year and I think the school will shut soon so wanted to make the most of it.
I just assumed if she was that ill she'd have asked to come home.
I'll keep her home until we see a doctor anyway.

Keep her off until she feels better, but unless you get further medical advice it doesn’t sound like a COVID test or isolation is required.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/09/2020 17:24

Agree with PPs. She shouldn’t be in because she’s not well. It doesn’t matter that it’s not Covid. She’s not going to learn anything if she’s feeling that rough. Having a sore throat is miserable and I find it hard to concentrate on anything else. I had tonsillitis a few years back and it’s one of the worst things I’ve had. I was in so much pain.

Mindymomo · 14/09/2020 17:28

If it’s tonsillitis, she may have a temperature. Try and look down her throat, to see if you can see white spots in back of throat. Paracetamol will help.

Gohackyourself · 14/09/2020 17:35

Get her to swill a spoon of salt in warm water every 3 hrs till bedtime - check for white spots in back of throat.
Calpol and nurofen too.plenty of fluids and a day or two off.

@Rosebel if she's in an important year, ask for work to be sent home for her. I understand why you'd be concerned, none of us know when schools will shut again, or if they will. But it's important that she recovers and important that she doesn't pass whatever she has on to other children and teachers.

CrunchyNutNC · 14/09/2020 18:54
  1. How much is she learning if she is there but feels like shit, 2. She might recover quicker if she rests, 3. The last thing the other families need is for kids to catch what sounds like a nasty bug.

Keep her at home OP.

Rosebel · 14/09/2020 19:44

Couldn't see any spots but it does look swollen so I'll be up the doctors tomorrow with her and see if a few days at home helps.
Good idea about asking for work as long as the teachers have time, although I might just ask what areas they are studying and then look up some work on the internet. Whatever happens though I'll be taking your advice and keeping her home.

Sorry your daughter is ill that sucks. I don’t know how old she is but if old enough to gargle saltwater (ie a cup of water you have dissolved table salt into) then that can help reduce the pain caused by tonsillitis - while you wait for antibiotics to kick in.

Good luck

polkadotpjs · 15/09/2020 07:24

If keep home now she seems ill enough to warrant it. My so had sore throat at weekend but eaten and drink and didn't mention yesterday so he went in soo think he had a mild cold. Hope you get an appointment
