To think we don't have to fully isolate despite dc off school.

dc have heavy head colds. Oldest cannot blow his nose and is particularly struggling. Dd is okay just non stop sneezing. School have said to keep them off for a couple days to see it professes. Tbh DS's started on Friday after school so if he was going to have a fever or cough he would by now. Dd has caught the cold off DS and started last night.

Anyway, because we don't have the signs of actual covid. Aibu to think hubby can go to work? I will be home with the children and I will
keep them home but need to pop out when he's home to the shops to buy some more vicks and what not!!

So yeah carry on as normal? With no coughs or fever in the house?!

YEs - as long as they don't have coughs, fevers or loss of taste/smell, you don't have to isolate.

KihoBebiluPute · 14/09/2020 09:22

That sounds reasonable to me. You aren't "isolating due to covid symptoms" so this is just "normal" being home from school due to illness, not a quarantine or self-isolation. Obviously that changes if anyone develops a cough or other primary Covid symptoms but until then you rock on going with your instincts.

tiredanddangerous · 14/09/2020 09:23

Yes carry on as normal. I'm surprised the school said to keep them off...do they realise if they adopt that policy they'll have three quarters of every class missing in a few weeks time!

Familyiseverything10 · 14/09/2020 09:23

I agree with you and think it's fine. Many people are isolating in this situation but I don't think it's necessary!

Bumble84 · 14/09/2020 09:28

Yeah, I would agree. Unless it’s the distinctive covid symptoms then carry on but you’re being sensible keeping them off so they don’t pass a cold.

Doingitaloneandproud · 14/09/2020 09:29

Yeah you are fine for him to go to work. On the gov website it advises even if a child is sent home due to a class member having a positive result, the whole family does not need to self isolate unless symptoms begin to appear

BexR · 14/09/2020 09:32

That doesn't sound right @Doingitaloneandproud. I think if someone is positive the whole family isolates for 14 days.

TheDuchessofMalfy · 14/09/2020 09:32

Yes as long as they don’t have new continuous coughs, which is a Coronavirus symptom.

Assuming not as you haven’t mentioned coughs.

It’s just the same as you would any other time.

Sh05 · 14/09/2020 09:32

Yes as pphave said, unless they develop symptoms the rest of the family is fine to carry on as normal.
The school is being overly cautious I think, but will probably change their approach once their attendance ratings drop

BexR · 14/09/2020 09:33

Oh sorry a class member! My brain hasnt woken up!

TheDuchessofMalfy · 14/09/2020 09:33

(Should have said OR fever OR loss of taste / smell)

bumble79 · 14/09/2020 09:42

Thanks all. Thankfully no fever or coughs do fingers crossed it'll stay that way. Just head colds at the minute. DS has had it since Friday so hoping he's getting over it as DD's is just starting!

The school haven't said anything of rocks about colds but when I rang up they said to keep them home for a day or two if very snotty. Apparently there's a lot of them off with colds..

@BexR

That doesn't sound right *@Doingitaloneandproud*. I think if someone is positive the whole family isolates for 14 days.
No as in if a child in your child's class tests positive, so your child has no symptoms / test only that child is to isolate
Doingitaloneandproud · 14/09/2020 13:40

@BexR

Oh sorry a class member! My brain hasnt woken up!
